I think they count on people paying for a certain period and then dropping out after a few visits. The gym I go to has periodic membership drives... it gets crowded for a while and about the time it's nice again, they do another membership drive. January is the worst time.

Sounds like the deal for my daughters band instrument. It is a rent to own plan, and when I asked if I would be notified when it was paid in full, I was told "No". I asked what would happen if I paid over the amount of the instrument, and they informed me basically, "Tough!". No refunds for overpayments. I don't know how they can get away with that considering they are the ones sending me monthly bills? They told me it was too much paperwork to keep track of everyone. I then asked them to give me the instrument and they wouldn't have to go to all that trouble.
