I guess gyms really are a good example. Even if the gym owners do everything right and have the best equipment and the cutest trainers they still are in a very fickle industry. Many people join and then stop going and never renew their memberships.
The one I belong to now does it a little bit differently. You can pay upfront if you want or you can pay monthly (costs a little more). The catch is, is that you have to give 30 days notice when you want to quit or they will keep taking the money from your credit card each month anyway.
You do not renew the membership each year like my old gym. It renews automatically.
