like this part.. --- Studies show that use of high-dose statin treatment can produce an extra reduction in cardiac events, by achievement of the maximum lowering of LDL cholesterol. Similar benefits could arguably be obtained if the dose of statin was increased without the addition of EPA; however, we noted that EPA did not affect LDL cholesterol concentrations and that this 19% reduction in major coronary events in the EPA group was not related to serum LDL cholesterol. This finding suggests that EPA exerts its effects via mechanisms that are independent of a reduction in LDL cholesterol. --- Thanks
