GEO: Actually, satellite radio has vastly superior sound quality since it is digital, while most of the gazillions of terra-based radio stations are still analog. If you tried satellite radio, you would immediately hear the difference in quality, as subscribers of XMSR & SIRI do all the time everywhere they drive.

But the best part of satellite radio is the exceptional programming: dozens & dozens of stations of commercial free music of all types; national business & stock news, CNBC, MSNBC, CNN, FOX NEWS; specialty programming that blows terra-based radio out of (into?) the water.

And you can listen to your favorites wherever you drive to work, beach, mountains, or cross country without having to search for another station maybe in range.

I've had both XM & SIRI for several years now, and it's like 8-Track vs. CD, or TV antenna vs. cable, or analog TV vs. HDTV ... once you've tried it, you'll never go back.

And yes, you have to pay for it, just like cable TV & broadband internet. Progress marches on... sigh!

BTW, 59-60 ain't so old.

That's vastly different than satellite radio. Satellite radio does not improve the sound quality....it's just broadcast from a different place. And, as a stockholder, that's what worries me. AS I said, I live in NJ and I would never "purchase radio"....all I have to do is turn on a radio and there are a gazillion stations.

GEO, Good morning. I, too, can appreciate all you have just said, as I am probably only ten years your junior. In Alabama, we listened to WLS Chicago at night, WWL New Orleans, WSB Atlanta....etc. In the early 70's we were amazed with the clarity of FM broadcasting, however the waves were shorter and we only could pick up about 40-50 miles of good broadcast. Now that satellite is here, I am pleased to know I can get my favorite stations anywhere I travel, except around a big truck, under a bridge, in a parking garage and in a tunnel. Oh well, I guess nothing is 100%, but this is close.

Good to hear from another well-educated adult.
