PCL is one I’ve held for a long time and don’t plan on selling. It’s not exciting, but it’s an excellent vehicle for capital preservation that also gives you tax-advantaged income and thematic* growth potential. The CEO just gave back a $1.8M bonus (#msg-109031936), so I think it’s safe to say that management is shareholder-friendly!

I’ve commented extensively about PCL on this board, so there’s no need to repeat everything here.

*Thematic means connected to The Global Demographic Tailwind.

A good friend was a manager at Progressive Insurance in the late 70s. He put a second on his house to buy more shares. I followed him. Basis is now less than .10/sh. Annual dividend next month will probably be .60+/sh. Will continue to use stock for charitable gifts, but probably will not sell any.
