that the legislation of one language as the sole compulsory 'official' language is effectively to ban all others from 'official' use ..... why would human beings do such a thing, what possible benefit could there be in blocking off communication with those whose distinct tongue the banners are too lazy or incompetent to learn?
I don't think that making English the "official" language means you are banning other languages or even discouraging their use. I fully support bilingual programs and programs perserving rich cultural legacies.

Services should be provided regardless of language and if language assistance is needed for spanish speaking only, then I support providing it.

I'm not against that, but it should be optional, and I believe it is optional to take spanish at most schools. I'd like to see languages offered in the earlier grades and emphasized more. But I don't see that as a conflict with English as official.
