Maybe she hasn't considered that the legislation of one language as the sole compulsory 'official' language is effectively to ban all others from 'official' use ..... why would human beings do such a thing, what possible benefit could there be in blocking off communication with those whose distinct tongue the banners are too lazy or incompetent to learn? .... do you see hispanos promoting the banning of english in AC? ... well maybe you do [there is a nutcase population of all flavours, i've been there, seen that, lol], but you'll be first to admit their nuttiness, eh

No person in the provinces covered by the treaty of Guadalupe* Hidalgo should be denied his human rights for speaking spanish, or english, or freakin swahili as far as i'm concerned ... it is entirely practical to provide government services in english and spanish both, and personally i would make them both essentials of a basic education ... beyond the degree to which english and french are both mandatory in Canada

* - trivia factoid - the name Guadalupe comes from arabic ... 'guadal' means 'oasis' or 'reservoir', 'water source' basically i think, other spelling for current arabic is 'wadi' ...... and 'lupe' or 'upe' is the evolvement of the name the moros put on a certain well in Spain ..... see, there is an example of the richness - languages are capable of connecting, they are bridges, they should not be made into walls
