my3, agree that licensing Toshiba was a major milestone for InterDigital. At $50 bil annual revenues, Toshiba stands way too tall for ANY of the wireless manufacturers to ignore. IMO firms do not get THAT big without knowing who has what IPR that needs to be licensed.

When a "Toshiba class" firm starts paying royalties for something, the smaller firms all have to know they will end up paying as well, and THEY ARE ALL "smaller than Toshiba"!

So why are so many wireless manufacturers still dragging their feet on licensing with InterDigital? That is the question I cannot get comfortable answering.

Some folks may be ok with an answer that goes something like "Nokia is a stupid bully, and the rest are a bunch of weak weenies hiding behind that big dummy", but this yokel fell off that wagon awhile ago.

IMO too much has been at stake for way too long to be explained by that "stupid bully and his flock" answer. Try as I may, just cannot get that description to fit all of the top dogs running firms like Nokia, Motorola, SONY/Ericsson, and Samsung.

Leaves me thinking there has to be something at issue other than a few tenths of a per cent on the 3G rates. IMO either the two sides are a lot further apart than just a "few tenths of a per cent" on 3G rates(my hunch), or there are some other business issues(???) that we are not aware of so far.
