People may get a different opinion if and when some really serious cyber attacks occur on the U.S. and its consumers.
the balance between security and privacy could be upset radically if we undergo a big attack... and the measures the NSA is using might end up being ahead of the curve in stopping the bad guys. It still bothers the sensibilities of those of us that like privacy... i guess one solution would be go neo-Luddite and revert back to pencil and paper.
The thing you pointed to about pre-gps phones being vulnerable to triangulation is true if one lives in an area of overlapping coverage (most of the U.S.) but some of us live in areas with sketchy coverage for even primary signal, and because of mountainous isolation overlapping coverage is uncommon. one point of coverage doesn't triangulate well.
