I have 17 years of experience in the semi industry including a
co-op term at your former employer Mosaid and several years at
Intel in Hillsboro, so spare me the lecture on microprocessor
design.

Otellini is the CEO. He is responsible for making the right call
on where to deploy design resources. He gets paid the big bucks to
see where things are going. He chose the wrong design target
many years ago. Intel WAS in the phone market with their XScale
product. Otellini exited the phone market and targeted Atom at a
market segment directly above phones with UMPC. Because of this
strategic mis-step, Intel lost out in mobile.

Intel also had execution mis-steps in mobile and over promised
and under-delivered with both Atom and WiMAX.

The core business was great under Otellini. There's no doubt
about that, but disruption comes from below and he missed the
threat.
