Tom, the point is not just what we are doing and going to do. The point is that if we do select few despots for "change" now, and succeed, other nations may from time to time find it convenient to use our own approach with neighbors they may "consider" a future threat. We are setting a dangerous precedence which lowers the bar to future conflicts, and changes the accepted definition that a preemptive act is considered a right of self defense.
