I use Microsoft Security Essentials and I'm quite pleased with it.

I should mention that MSE version 2 is out. Those using the earlier version will not be notified automatically. They'll need to update manually.

P.S. One can create a test virus file by copying this text into a file using NotePad, then changing the filename extension from .TXT to .COM
