Loop, IPR royalties on MUOS handsets is another consideration worth talking about. Guessing with you that IDCC already included some specifically defined usage terms for their IPR in the MUOS bid package.

My point in the post you ref was that whoever wins the bid to supply the W-CDMA terminals for MUOS is going to need some cooperation and support from InterDigital's engineering team. Hello!, our little InterDigital happens to be providing ALL of the "air interface" radio technology that those MUOS terminals have to inter-operate with. Net/net; IMO IDCC is "the man to see" if you want to sell MUOS terminals that perform to spec.

Bet Ericsson's base station engineers are working closely with InterDigital's tech folks. My thought was about the welcome a terminal vendor who is cheating InterDigital might expect when they come looking for a seat at InterDigital's MUOS "air interface" table.

The game is changing. HSDPA may be the next "sharp elbow" IDCC let's the IPR cheaters feel down under the 3G bucket.
