yes i do see they do need tests for basic info safety, insulation quality etc... but further testing by the company would be redundant and not lead to much more sales. if there is something that is required for something then i agree that it would need to be done and astms if could be done should be done if not redundant, if one such insulation test becomes available to them then i would say that they should do it.
but even still i doubt that the company doing it would be any such magic bullet and perhaps only make the sales process a little easier, so i'll just agree to disagree.
on the other hand your experience with such industries seems interesting did the people know you or whatever company you owned or worked for? and were your products radical deviations or the type that show incremental changes? Cuz the credibility i was talking about was not one of official studies it's the one where people innately believe that the product will work after being shown such tests, where that primitive fear they get of, "ohh crap i'm putting my ass on the line here what if it does not work" is no longer there.
