Shares of some top gold companies were up at the close of trading:
Barrick Gold rose $1.14 or 3.3 percent, to $35.59.
Gold Fields rose $.24 or 2.1 percent, to $11.92.
Goldcorp rose $1.14 or 3.1 percent, to $38.00.
Newmont Mining rose $1.00 or 2.4 percent, to $42.14.
