Shares of some top coal companies were up at the close of trading:
Arch Coal rose $.62 or 3.8 percent, to $17.07.
Consol Energy rose $1.46 or 4.3 percent, to $35.12.
Massey Energy rose $1.40 or 6.7 percent, to $22.35.
Peabody Energy rose $1.67 or 5.0 percent, to $34.83.
