PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Five-time Pro Bowl linebacker Hardy Nickerson, cut by Jacksonville for salary cap purposes earlier this week, visited the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday.
Nickerson, a 15-year veteran, returned home to California after his visit, but is considering the Eagles or Green Bay Packers. Nickerson visited the Packers on Thursday.
``I had a great visit,'' Nickerson said Friday after meeting with the Eagles coaching staff. ``We talked a little bit (about playing time), but it was more of a visit and getting to know everybody and meeting the coaches.''
Nickerson, who turns 37 on Sept. 1, said his main priority is playing for a team that has a chance to win the Super Bowl. The Eagles lost to St. Louis in the NFC championship games last season.
``I feel pretty good. I feel like I've got a lot of gas left in the tank,'' Nickerson said. ``I know I've got two strong years left in me. I'm looking forward to getting out there and contributing any way that I can.''
The Eagles lost two-time Pro Bowl middle linebacker Jeremiah Trotter to Washington following a bitter contract dispute. They also lost starting outside linebacker Mike Caldwell to the Chicago Bears. Philadelphia signed four-time Pro Bowl safety Blaine Bishop and linebacker Shawn Barber.
Barry Gardner moves into Trotter's spot, and Barber, who played for the Redskins, is expected to replace Caldwell. But the Eagles could use a player with Nickerson's experience.
``I wouldn't be here if the Eagles weren't interested in me,'' Nickerson said.
Nickerson's best years were in Tampa Bay. He made the Pro Bowl five times with the Buccaneers and had 214 tackles in 1993 and 194 in 1997. Nickerson began his career in Pittsburgh. He played six seasons with the Steelers, seven with the Buccaneers and two in Jacksonville.
The Jaguars cut Nickerson and wide receiver Keenan McCardell on Monday, saving $6.5 million.
