Report: Bucs agree to terms with WR McCardell

June 7, 2002

BRISTOL, CONNECTICUT (TICKER) -- It appears as though Keenan McCardell is staying in the Sunshine State.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reached a contract agreement with the veteran wide receiver, ESPN.com reported on Friday night.

According to the report, McCardell chose the Buccaneers over the Kansas City Chiefs and will sign a four-year, $10 million contract, including a $2 million signing bonus.

Regarded as the prize catch among free agents, McCardell hit the open market on Monday after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars in a salary cap move.

McCardell, 32, is coming off another strong season in which he caught 93 passes for 1,110 yards and six touchdowns. The 10-year veteran has 579 catches for 7,526 yards and 38 touchdowns during his career.

In Jacksonville, McCardell helped form one of the league's top receiving duos along with Jimmy Smith. He will be in a similar situation in Tampa Bay with coach Jon Gruden's West Coast offense as he teams with Keyshawn Johnson.
