I was checking out some info on Clemens and he's been suspected of using PEDs for well over a year. As you said, they were doing damage control then..."he has never tested positive"...and so forth. I'm sure we'll also hear how great his work ethic is and how that contributed to his continued great performance as he aged. Of course Bonds also has one of the best work ethics in the game.
Just as you said earlier this morning, most of these people are likeable and super-hardworking. They're successful because of how competitive their drive to be the best is. That drive pushes them over the edge. Bonds wanted to be known as not one of the greatest players, but the best player. The attention MacGwire got for breaking the HR record was his drive. I want to see how this plays out because I do think there has been a double standard on how Bonds has been treated over other alleged steroid users. Giambi has basically been forgotten and Sheffield has gone on just fine, but because Bonds is the one who has broken a record and some of it maybe racially motivated, he gets absolutely no respect at all. I still think what Bonds has done is incredible, even in the modern era of drug use, but there is so much specialization such as with the pitchers that wasn't around 3+ decades ago.
Thanks for enlightening us with your opinion, once again, langostino. Your recent post on Conte is interesting, almost surprising. Mitchell didn't even talk to him....hmmmmm.
