Hi Doug, the last time I used the Arachne DOS browser, it asked for the phone number, user name and password.
I don't think you can use AOL with out using their software, so I would not try getting the static IP number. The use of a static IP number is more for people that have a DSL/Cable modem, and want to set up a web server. All web servers need static IP numbers.
Here is a ISP you may want to sign up with, so you can play with the dos web browser. http://www.access-4-free.com/IndexOv.htm I don't know how good they are, I found them when hunting for cheep ISP's for my sister. This ISP says you don't need any special software from the ISP. What you do need to do is check their access numbers to make sure you have a local number to use, then when you sign up with them they will set you up with a user name and a password. That should be all you need. Starting with windows ME, and XP you cannot run dos programs that require you to be in MS-dos mode, not a dos window.
