The record for Phoenix was set about 15 years ago when it reached 122 F. The old record was 118 F. Which is why I now spend most of the year in Monterey.

And yes, those are official temperatures normally recorded at airports. The Death Valley one is not from an airport of course (they don't have one) but the official station at Furnace Springs.

The blacktop at Wal-Mart is a whole 'nuther deal - lol

All in all, it is probably more comfortable at HRCT's headquarters in Shanghai.
