Really encouraging update from Joel and family. Very little progression since November and he seems to be doing well clinically. Wonderful to hear they managed to enjoy such a special trip together.

Update May 2026
Further to our update in January, we thought we’d let you know where things are up to. After the worrying news in January identifying a new tumour deep in Joel’s brain, his consultant told him that he was well enough to fly to New Zealand, as planned. Some dear friends have moved out to Auckland for a couple of years and we jumped at the chance to go and see them. We had the holiday of a lifetime travelling around the North and South Islands, taking in beautiful beaches, amazing geothermal landscapes, the Southern Alps, fascinating cities and spending precious time together as a family and with our friends.
Joel has had another scan in April, to see how the new tumour is progressing. We were very relieved to hear that there had been very little change since the scan in November, which initially identified something untoward. The consultant now feels that Joel should be scanned every six months, which gives opportunity for a bit of life between scans. However Joel needs to remain alert to any physical symptoms which would indicate tumour growth. He is busy applying for jobs and internships and is enjoying his part-time work as a freelance reader for a company that identifies manuscripts that might be adaptable for TV or film.
That’s all for now, but we’ll keep you updated as always.
Steph and Ian.
