Can we make the 424 battery smaller — and remove cooling altogether?

Using the Voltt simulation tool from About:Energy, I’ve been able to compare three battery pack sizes around the Nürburgring, each with different cooling strategies, in a matter of minutes.

The goal is simple (and brutal): one lap, ~5 minutes, minimum mass.

All three packs use the Amprius Technologies, Inc. SA88 cell:
Large: 275 kg
Medium: 240 kg
Small: 205 kg

The result?
➡️ Only the large pack can sustain the full lap demand.
➡️ The medium and small packs heat up too quickly.
➡️ Even on the large pack, cooling cannot be fully removed — a small amount is still required to keep cell temperature below the 80 °C limit.

This kind of insight would have taken weeks not long ago. With Voltt, it’s fast, visual, and brutally honest.

Huge credit to the About:Energy team for delivering such a powerful cloud-based simulation tool.

Back to refining PERRINN 424 — chasing the right compromise to go after the record.
