I have held a large position in CAT in a beneficiary IRA account for years and have continuously reinvested all dividends at no cost to me. So, some of the shares are acquired at much higher prices over time than the original position instituted when I inherited the IRA and moved from income producing investments to all equities. The last statement lists my "average unit cost" at $88.21.
Still a very large holding in that account, but I did look to CAT a time or 2 when it was trading at ATH's to fund some of the RMD's that are typically an issue with inherited retirement accounts, Luckily this came to me prior to the change in the law which now requires inherited beneficiary IRA's to be drawn down through RMD's within 10 years of inheritance. I have had to take RMD's for many years now.
