IMHO TA can mostly be categorised as speculative nonsense!

In fact in my professional career with a large vendor of financial information and systems, I commissioned the corporate research group to create a study of TA methods to determine how dependable conclusions about their Alpha value really are. Based on the rigorous study results we concluded to partner with 3rd parties for TA Apps to offer in our workstations, rather than investing our own resource into something with little or no objective value. We used to have an old knucklehead in charge of the company's charting and TA features that kept it growing into a massive mess of nonsense and who travelled the world to entertain fellow knuckleheads at company expense - something that went on for years and shouldn't have had.
