It is not a surprise that transceivers using indium phosphide for 200G per lane in order to achieve 1.6T would come out before LWLG's entry. Indium phosphide modulators reached 200G per lane first after all. I see this release as a good thing as it shows that interest in 1.6T transceivers is real and happening sooner than many thought. AI has everything to do with that.

This should light a fire under LWLG management and partners to get things rolling quickly as possible and perhaps begin to give some projection as to when their transceivers will be available. Staying in the dark is now getting rather old. We know who the main competition is and cost, size and power will be big selling points compared to InP.

Transceiver makers can bring out InP devices but when Perkinamine fueled devices are available they will move towards what is most attractive and will sell. It is always about money.
