Hopefully the last time I say this. Most index funds do not have an objective of maximizing the rate of return. Their objective is to get investors what they’ve asked for: the return of that index. That means they simply buy stocks that make up the index. They aren’t trying to beat the index so have no incentive to do any research.
For those that do care about the rate of return, and Blackrock maybe one of those, they use algorithms to buy based on stock movements charting etc. It’s software driven, i believe.
If the stock drops to a certain market cap they simply sell it because it no longer meets the criteria of the fund. Important question would be does Blackrock and Vanguard have a disproportionate percentage in lightwave relative to other similar companies that they own?. That might be telling. None of this other stuff people are posting here is telling at all
