Wrong! A cash dividend and a stock dividend are different.
With a stock dividend If the dividend is 25% or more of the stock value, special rules apply to the determination of the ex-dividend date. In these cases, the ex-dividend date will be deferred until one business day after the dividend is paid you have to buy it before the pay date and hold it until one business day after. I have received several with penny stocks and profited bigley.
I had one several years ago from a bottom sub penny stock that ran to 93 cents.
Very profitable and these where otc stocks. Saga is a $10+ nasdaq stock.
What Is a Special Dividend?
A special dividend is paid to shareholders outside of the regular dividend schedule. It may result from a windfall earnings, spin-off, or other corporate action that is seen as a one-off. In general, special dividends are rare but larger than ordinary dividends.
with stock dividends, a company doesn’t have to tap into its cash reserves or profits since it is only issuing its own stock to its equity shareholders.
