If that wasn't their intent then why point towards this as having some bearing on the presentation cancellation? You are obviously insinuating they intended to 'price hold'. This doesn't make any sense to me. I don't see how it would be in the company's best interest, their individual best interest or how risking these silly games for the mischievous purpose you spelled out is worth the risk.
