It's true what you write about the perception of socialism. People have to be constantly reminded that social security, medicare, the interstate system, etc., could all be construed somehow as socialist. It seems that it's fine to subsidize big agriculture, defense contractors and the fossil fuel industry but it's socialism if you want to help eradicate childhood food insecurity.
The number of anti-semitic hate crimes in this country has jumped up by a magnitude in the past few years. When you see the vitriol directed at Soros, the Charlottesville marchers, casual comments about dual loyalties, I think that the country won't vote for a Jewish candidate for president at this point.
I'm usually amazed when I find Jews who were Trump supporters and I know a couple. It's seems akin to, "What's the Matter with Kansas", people voting against their own self interests.
