To be honest, I actually could see the old Irish and Italian prohibition era gangsters blaming their arrests on the sheer bigotry of the cops, but only in a totally dishonest way, while grinning. They knew the risks they were taking, even though prohibition was wrong.

Old cop joke from my Dad's childhood...

As a cop is within listening distance, you ask your buddy "Hey, what are pennies made of?", and then your buddy responds with "Dirty Copper!" Oh the innocence back then lol.
