What can this mean?

AVXL preparing for the next phase in its development: COMMERCIALIZATION.

I note the apparent absence of any pharmaceutical work by the new hire. Skilled in engineering and other stuff; lots of commercialization things, it appears. But no drug work.

Why, then, was this lady hired? What for? Anavex Life Sciences Corp, right in the new-hire announcement, says that it's "...a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing differentiated therapeutics for the treatment of neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders...."

The company develops differentiated therapeutics. It makes no claims (yet) about commercializing any of them. But Ms. Ma, the new hire, isn't boarding the Anavex boat for a pleasure ride. She had to be paid for her services; not cheap. Clearly, the company wants to take all the steps required to eventually commercialize blarcamesine and the other pipeline drugs. Think they might have an inkling or two that clinical results data will be positive; that actual commercial sale of their drug(s) will be a next big chapter in the Anavex story?

I support these moves, the hiring of the new person, and her direction of an internal sales force. The alternative, previously presumed by many, was for the company to merely license out their drugs to other sales and commercialization entities; become merely a royalty-supported small biotech. Although it might take a few months longer, creation of an in-house sales force will yield the greatest financial rewards, for both the company and its shareholders. Anavex Life Science Corp, then, is destined to be a major, world-class pharmaceutical.
