If UHC is indeed dropping coverage of icosapent ethyl for the severe hypertriglyceridemia indication, and if other insurers follow suit, this is akin to what some had hoped possible after the Dubacle--withdrawing the marine indication with the FDA. But instead of the indication disappearing at the FDA level, it will disappear at the insurer level. With this wiped from insurer computers, there will be no generic substitution for the CVD indication at the pharmacy. I think UHC has said enough is enough. We don't want to be in the middle of this. But they are pressured to substitute with generics at the highest levels due to political pressures, and its come to the point where it doesn't even matter if the generic is a more costly alternative. UHC found a way out, maybe with the help of Amarin.
