Just over simplifying since I am not an expert on the internal workings of displays and don't know how to or want to give a complete technical discussion.

Just trying to get across the basic idea that I believe that QMC's announcement in Nov was that they measured >91% Rec2020 spectrum generated by the LEDs alone and not from the front of a display's screen.

All blue LEDs in the BLU needs some of the blue light converted by the color filters in the front of the screen to the other two primaries.

QMC is generating all three primary colors in the BLU before the light passes through the LGP, LCD windows and color filters, hence the basic idea of the "color passing through" the display internals.

Good point about software, I was just thinking hardware.

Just trying to talk about something other than short sales.
