When I was trading I had three phones with five lines each for 15 lines, I had a buyer and seller on two phones and two different lines and a phone in each ear, I don't look at them as buys or sells, I look at them as buys AND Sells contemporaneously.

Further, I never looked at that activity as optimism or pessimism, unfortunately I had access to order flow and traders talk after hours at the bar after a few drinks so some order flow at other firms just leaked out. You don't have that access, random small "ask slapping" is not optimism when you have a contra broker sitting on a very large order on a call and a give up all day for weeks on end. You will never know that information.
