Amarin is barking under the wrong tree. Amarin should redistribute their reps to cover at least 80 percent of cardiovascular specialists in the US. They are currently covering 50,000 doctors so they can cover 100 percent of cardiologists easily (32,000) and still have leftover for other docs. Can someone make them aware of this?

I understand how primary care works. They really don’t get into details. Their lipid decisions absolutely make no sense with some exceptions for good primary physicians. If any primary doctor is reading this and is doing the right thing that is great. i am not talking about the good primary care docs. Here i am talking about majority.

They have perception that LDL is good if it is bellow 120mg/dl in ptients with CABG and stents. Cardiologist’s goal is to push LDL under 70. i see patients every day where primary doc discontinues statin because the numbers are good even though patient has CAD including stents or CABG. “But my primary care doc said my cholesterol is good”. I just roll my eyes. It is unbelievable.

So yes Amarin is barking under the wrong tree. If they want to sell Vascepa they should shift all of their reps to cardiologists. As simple as that. The current strategy is simply wrong.
