Corker blasts Trump for trying to ‘publicly castrate’ Tillerson

Sen. Bob Corker is not finished criticizing President Trump.

The Tennessee Republican admonished the commander-in-chief on Friday for attempting to “publicly castrate” his own secretary of state.

Corker, who publicly engaged in a war of words with the President earlier in the week, again said that Trump is undermining the work of Secretary of State Tillerson and endangering the U.S with his tweets and actions.

Trump, according to Corker, is creating an untenable situation where the U.S. will have only two choices when dealing with countries like Iran and North Korea: war or watch them build nuclear weapons.

“You cannot publicly castrate your own secretary of state without giving yourself that binary choice,” Corker told the Washington Post. “The tweets – yes, you raise tension in the region (and) it’s very irresponsible. But it’s the first part that I am most exercised about.”

Corker, who earlier in the day said he would introduce legislation to fix the Iran nuclear deal that Trump moved to decertify, heaped praise on Tillerson.

He said the nation’s top diplomat has done wonders when it comes to working with China and moving the region toward a peaceful resolution.

But Trump tweeting that Tillerson is “wasting his time” is dissolving whatever progress he has made, Corker said.

“When you jack the legs out from under your chief diplomat, you cause all that to fall apart,” he added.

Corker, the head of the Senate foreign relations committee, announced last month he would not be running for reelection in 2018.

Trump took to Twitter on Sunday to attack his fellow GOPer, accusing him of not having “the guts to run” for reelection.

He also claimed Corker “begged” him for his endorsement.

Corker responded by calling the White House “an adult day care center” and telling The New York Times that “we could be heading towards World War III with the kinds of comments that he’s making.”
