Did you read the article? The guy bought a ticket and was in his seat ready to go. Then they make an announcement that they overbooked and asked if would someone give up their seat for $400 and a night in a hotel. No one agreed. Then they upped it to $800 and they only got two people. Still needed two more. So they randomly pick this guy and tell him he must get off the plane and he refuses. I don't blame him one bit. Why do they pick him? He's a doctor who has appointments to see patients. Even if he were a garbage collector who the heck are they to force this random guy to get out of his paid seat? They should have just kept raising the refund price until they got two people to accept. You don't forcefully take a paying customer out of their seat because you F'd up and overbooked. He was reacting like that out of pure surprise and fear. Everyone else on the flight was supportive of him and telling them to let go of him.
