What happens is the companies make all their money up front, but after that if they can't keep the inflow of new members at a steady rate, they soon run out of cash to continue. Who likes the thought of working for free 10 years down the road? It also makes it more difficult to resell, as who wants to own a company with a bunch of picky members who have no intention of adding additional capital towards your bottom line?
