Your printing of the shadrach story perfectly illustrates that a lack of faith on his part would have brought him and his associates a fiery death, so what is your point?...That is what I learned in a bible study years ago, sorry if it doesn't agree with your, more recently translated version.

As far as showing you one passage in the bible that would illustrate a lack of faith causes pain, that is like saying step back from the tree so that you can see the forest. The bible is filled with stories/illustrations concerning that, to step out on faith and to rise above our fears to avoid pain. In the old and new testaments, Jesus walking on water and telling the apostles to have faith and walk on water with them, they were afraid of the pain of drowning and death....Remember Daniel and the Lions, or David killing the 9' tall giant, The Israelis surrounded by their enemies and on the verge of slaughter and then surrounded by thousands of Angels (I hope the Angels are around that Israeli army today),these actions all took faith to overcome the fear of pain and death.
