wmft:
Yes, we are going in circles.
pain can bring on more faith, but lack of faith can cause pain and as a result bring on suffering.
I ask you again, where is this taught in Scripture? Where in the Bible does it say that a lack of faith causes pain? Please, show me a verse- any verse to back up this statement.
Remember when the evil pharoah threw those people into the furnace and they did not burn and did not feel pain? If they lacked faith the fire would have engulfed them and they would have been in great pain.
The story to which you are referring is Daniel's 3 freinds, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Here it is, in context:
Daniel 3:13-14- Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king. Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?
Daniel's 3 friends were about to be thrown into the fiery furnace for not choosing to save their own lives by bowing to the golden image. Here's their response:
Daniel 3:16-18- Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
Did they have faith that God would save them? Sure. But they were also willing to acknowledge that He might not. Does that mean that they still demonstrated a lack of faith, to some degree? Absolutely not.
And where from this passage do you see that if they had a lack of faith that they for sure would have burned- as you said, "If they lacked faith the fire would have engulfed them and they would have been in great pain. "
And since when do you know what would have happened to them? Only God can know that since He alone is infinite; only He knows the end from the beginning and the end of all possible outcomes. You have no business making absolute statements of what would have happened to them, because you do not know.
