I just received a so-called Form 1042-S in the mail from the fair fund. I'm a canadian resident. Do you guys know what this is for? Thanks in advance.
The end of a horrible experience, the beginning of a new great one!
Woohoo! Congrats! The end is in sight for us!
I live in Canada, and we don't have the IRS, so perhaps it's different for us. Either way, I was planning on putting the entire amount into my RRSP (Registered Retired Savings Plan) which means the government gives you back all the taxes back on it anyways, and if they really do see it as income and add it to my regular income, it means they give me a HUGE tax refund because it would increase my income to a much higher tax bracket
This is crazy.....The money I invested was money I already paid income taxes on, and I'm only getting less than half of it back, and now it gets taxed again? It doesn't make sense at all....
I have a question for you guys....if you included all your losses for the period that they asked you to on the claim form (Nov. 18, 2016 until December 22, 2017), did you guys get 49.7% of that? Since my losses during the period were 100K USD which I provided proof for and they calculated my claim to be only 75K and will pay me only half of that.....I'm confused as to why?
Thanks for posting the distribution list, but I'm a little confused. I had about 135K of losses that I incurred in the period of Nov. 18, 2016 until December 22, 2017 (which they asked me to include in the claim form), but it only lists that I have about 77K of qualified losses. How do we know how they did the calculations? Also, is the distribution list in US dollars or Canadian dollars?
Thanks...
"If there was an opportunity"...you mean to play penny stocks again? To try another pump and dump and maybe get out in time this time? You mean, to time the market? UM, I don't think so!
And if more people cared about your guys' discussion about the previous company history and shell and new company, I'm sure you would see more people discussing and engaging with you guys. Fact is, it's the same few people talking a whole bunch about "IF's", and the rest of us don't care. We want to receive our money and move on. And before you say, "then don't read my comments!", I have to read the comments in case there is any new information about the hedge fund, and feel like all this other random company "what if's" is a waste of my time. I'm sure lots of other people feel the same way.
IF the shell gets bought out and IF the bring another company in and IF they pump it and IF the smart people with shares get out. With that many IF's, the chances of that happening is 0.1%. I agree with the other posters, any posts that don't have anything to do with us getting the fair fund cheque is a waste of our time. Once that is completed, I want to put this company and this stock behind me forever and never once think about it again.
So qualified loss means not your entire loss, but only the loss you had during the time period that was eligible for the claim?
Excuse my ignorance, but what does this mean exactly? (I'm not familiar with the term pro-rata)
I'm sure with the 3 million dollars he pocketed of our money, he can buy her whichever other piano he wants. Sucks for us that he didn't get any jail time or get all the money taken away, but I guess that's life.
From what I remember, the fraud was worth around 7 million but Jeffrey offered up only 4 million and did not admit any wrongdoing, and the SEC stopped going after him because he gave them 4 million, so he got to pocket 3 million.
Has anybody else received an email from the fund that asks them to fill out a W-8BEN form? (Certificate of Foreign Status of Beneficial Owner for United States Tax Withholding and Reporting)
What is it for exactly?
so the deadline was in June from what I remember, and I did qualify. So I guess March - June 2023 of this year we should hear back from them? I'm just asking in case anybody else received any additional information. It seemed I got information later than a lot of people last time...
Does anyone know approximately when we will receive any money this year if we qualify?
Thanks for your response. I actually just received my postcard the very next day! For a while, I actually thought my application may have gotten lost in the mail. I appreciate you taking the time to answer though!
Did you receive your postcard yet? I mailed my application in from Canada a few months ago and still haven't received anything...
Thanks! That's excellent news! I also did a bit more digging and found this:
Tax Forms: The interest component of the distribution is U.S. source income. Therefore, to
ensure that the Jeffrey Friedland Fair Fund can comply with its reporting and/or withholding obligations, U.S.
persons (defined below) must complete the Substitute Form W-9 on page 9 of this Claim Form; persons who are
not U.S. persons as defined below must obtain the proper IRS Form W-8 series (W-8BEN, W-8BEN-E, W-8IMY,
W-8ECI, or W-8EXP). The appropriate tax form must be completed, signed, and submitted with your completed
Claim Form. IRS Forms W-8BEN, W-8BEN-E, or other W-8 series forms, can be obtained from the IRS website:
https://www.irs.gov/forms-instructions.
So does this mean we do NOT do the main claim form since it pertains only to US citizens, and only do those other IRS forms (I think I read they are for US aliens, which again doesn't really apply to me), or does it mean that we do that form and ignore the US tax part? I'm just a little confused because at the end they make you sign a section that says you "certify that you are a US citizen". I'm curious if they just want us to sign it and just cross that part out.....
Does anybody know if international investors (specifically Canadian) qualify for the friedland fund, or is it just for american citizens?
Thanks.
thanks letitride. Time to move on to better things!
It would be, I agree, unless if I had something more promising lined up. Why not wait another 3 months for a possible miracle that is just around the corner? Besides the fact that I've done that probably 17 times and that miracle just never seems to come, I've also just been given the opportunity to participate in an IPO for the company that I've worked at for the last 10 years, a very stable company with 5000 employees and adding hundreds of employees every year through acquisitions, and grossing about 700 million a year. I would rather take my $2200 I have left here and see it double or triple than wait for another 3 months for the miracle that THIS time, will help us shareholders! Not that I had to explain all my way of thinking, but just so you're aware, people do have their reasons, and may always post to explain all of them here. Once again, best of luck to all of the people remaining!
Well that's it for me folks. Finally sold my entire holdings this week, that I've been holding for about 4-5 years, and have not sold a single share during this time. I have zero faith left that anything good will come out of this company. I think the previous management realized over time that nothing was going to come out of this company, and milked it for all the money it had, and then jumped ship when they realized the gravy train was coming to an end. Funny how none of them stuck around when they realized that they weren't going to get paid anymore. Sad, but that's how it goes.
I bought at the average price of 77 cents and sold for 1 penny, for an approximate 99% loss. And if you guys are curious, that was approximately 200K down the drain, and 7 years of my life's work. Lots of lessons learned, I guess I could say, and great humility along with it. Good luck to the rest of you!
The last one they did, wasn't it just a phone listen-in, with no ability to ask any questions?
how are you voting this time?
can you confirm the 3 million DGF got back? Somebody posted here saying that Ziv said they got all their 5 million back and now they're just being greedy...
that's because the share price is 50 times lower
The only question here, is how come so many people believed you and lost thousands of dollars in the process? Do you have any more recommendations for them sleepscape? Another winner like Vate to help them win their money back?
VATE - the company that has "1000 reasons" why is should go higher, and yet the pps never ever rises.
Even if they don't make a single penny from any of those millions of shares, it's not like they would lose anything in any case. They are paid, what is it? 10K each/month? For doing pretty close to nothing too. How many people do you know make 10K/month for doing nothing? They were living well all of these years, for doing hardly nothing. Even if the company goes bankrupt and nobody gets anything, they're probably a few hundred thousand dollars richer just from their salaries. All of the investment risk was on us, not them!
is that your break-even cost for all the money you had invested, or just this latest round? just curious...
Still waiting for the hammer the size of Alaska you promised 2 years ago to drop...you know, the one you said would drop when the price was $2? I guess I missed the opportunity to "SNATCH UP ANYTHING THAT MOVES UNDER $5" like you were recommending...
have you seen the news? Nobody is going outside anymore, they're even shutting down parks. My sister whose a nurse is telling us that even nurses at her hospital are refusing to come to work and if a patient looks like they have the coronavirus, nobody wants to go near them. They're even going to start deciding who gets a ventilator and who doesn't since they're running out. Everybody is paranoid as hell. Nobody is going to go to the hospitals to run trials for psoriasis - at least not in the short term.
good luck to you! I see your sarcasm now...
as they say, better a bird in your hand than 2 in the bush. If Ziv truly believed that this was going to go that high, he would never have tried blackmail the executives of this company. I personally think he has zero faith in this company, otherwise he would have gotten behind them and tried really hard to help them, so if the share price goes even a little up, he'll sell faster than anybody and walk away a multimillionaire and laugh all the way to the doughnut shop!
I sure hope so, but didn't they get a final rejection for the MM patent? I don't remember if they amended it and sent it back...
don't worry, there's ALWAYS that catalyst that's RIGHT around the corner, that will create the NTH degree of MANIA that they're SO CLOSE TO!
But even if they have an agreement with Emilia, they stated that they're planning to go down the drug route so until they get phase 2 done, I don't know if they're going to start distributing/selling it. It could take a whole lot longer and cost a whole lot more money until they do...
this is great news, but if they can't get a patent for it, it's not going to do anything for us
problem is, figuring out what price is really attractive on a penny stock, is also pretty impossible to do. It's a complete gamble after all since nobody knows a damn thing
