Some more From Wiki 3D printing
3D printing or additive manufacturing is a process of making a three-dimensional solid object of virtually any shape from a digital model. 3D printing is achieved using an additive process, where successive layers of material are laid down in different shapes. 3D printing is also considered distinct from traditional machining techniques, which mostly rely on the removal of material by methods such as cutting or drilling (subtractive processes).
A 3D printer is a limited type of industrial robot that is capable of carrying out an additive process under computer control.
While 3D printing technology has been around since the 1980s, it was not until the early 2010s that the printers became widely available commercially. the market for 3D printers and services was worth $2.2 billion worldwide in 2012, up 29% from 2011.
The 3D printing technology is used for both prototyping and distributed manufacturing with applications in architecture, construction (AEC), industrial design, automotive, aerospace, military, engineering, dental and medical industries, biotech (human tissue replacement), fashion, footwear, jewelry, eyewear, education, geographic information systems, food, and many other fields. One study has found that open source 3D printing could become a mass market item because domestic 3D printers can offset their capital costs by enabling consumers to avoid costs associated with purchasing common household objects.[
History of 3-D Printing - How stuff works
The earliest use of additive manufacturing was in rapid prototyping (RP) during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Prototypes allow manufacturers a chance to examine an object's design more closely and even test it before producing a finished product.
RP allowed manufacturers to produce those prototypes much faster than before, often within days or sometimes hours of conceiving the design.
In RP, designers create models using computer-aided design (CAD) software, and then machines follow that software model to determine how to construct the object. The process of building that object by "printing" its cross-sections layer by layer became known as 3-D printing.
The earliest development of 3-D printing technologies happened at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and at a company called 3D Systems. In the early 1990s, MIT developed a procedure it trademarked with the name 3-D Printing, which it officially abbreviated as 3DP. Today, some of the same 3-D printing technology that contributed to RP is now being used to create finished products. The technology continues to improve in various ways, from the fineness of detail a machine can print to the amount of time required to clean and finish the object when the printing is complete.
The processes are getting faster, the materials and equipment are getting cheaper, and more materials are being used, including metals and ceramics. Printing machines now range from the size of a small car to the size of a microwave oven.
Like being on the ground floor. What's not to like about 3D award winning printers. They certainly are here to stay.
Been watching this area grow, since the Israeli company around 2005 or 6skulls etc. came out with a software to make 3D medical models. This is not that new anymore. Took awhile to become commercial (price of course). I forget the company's name. It was very short 4-5 letters and started with T.
Yep mrcashflow I agree it actually is a sure sign the are trying to flip...lol
Wow lots of bashers in this place. What's up?
Does anyone else think that someone wants to own all the shares and they (whoever they are) are squeezing us shareholders?
Everything is going more global. How WorldSpace fits into this puzzle is my question. WorldSpace was too early. They might still own licenses or bandwidth around the globe, we don't really know. One thing I know for sure is that the direction is global for companies in every country.
This is only the beginning. When Skype first started in the tele/internet communications. I could see the global reach.
Malone is already in Europe, why wouldn't he want more of the world, he is a big thinker.
If prices fluctuate during trading hours, some sites only record the closing price for that day. I am not sure if you are talking about the changes that happened that day. Was not home that day, only saw the comments.
This activity and SIRI expanding internationally. Sure seems there is some connection especially if the NOLs and international licenses and maybe certain bandwidth is owned by WRSPQ.
The reason it jumps so fast and high is because the float is only 48 Mil. This can make you a million in couple of days if it really jumps. I agree someone is hot to trot......:o}
Liked this, is that a hint maybe us?
If I had to guess, one is, and I think I hinted at it a little bit today, over time, we’d like to expand our footprint on an international basis.
An interview with Carlos Slim, who is one of the richest men in the world. This part of the interview is about the future of his investments.
2010 interview with King on CNN.
KING: We're back with Carlos Slim. We have a few minutes left. We know one of your principal business is telecommunication. What's the future? Where is it all going? Television, telephones, Internet, where is it all going?
KING: Where is it all going though? I mean, are you still investing in telecommunications?
SLIM: Sure, sure, sure. Yes, yes, yes. This year we will invest. Next year will we invest 8.3 billion dollars.
KING: In telecommunications?
SLIM: In telecommunications. Only in telecommunications because technology grow very fast. You need to be ahead. You need to be giving the best thing. And the good thing is that the prices are going down. We are very proud that the mobile and cellular service, we have a penetration like in Latin America of 90 percent. That's great, 90 percent penetration. It's near the same that US.
But now we need to do that in broadband.
KING: You loaned the New York Times quite a bit of money. Do you still have faith in newspapers?
SLIM: I think we need to make a difference between news and papers. I think paper is the tool, the way, the vehicle. And news is the contained. I think that it will be very important everyday more to give the news and the contain through electronic means, like I was telling about entertainment and I was telling about --
KING: But we'll always need papers?
SLIM: I shouldn't say yet, because I use paper. For me, it's difficult not to. But I think in the future, electronic will grow extraordinarily. Not in the future, it's growing extraordinary. And every time will be bigger. And the piece of the chair of the paper will be smaller in the world.
Just curiosity..lol
This is the only thing I found about OTN.
Global OTN Semiconductor Market 2011-2015
Industry
Electronic Component and Semiconductor
TechNavio's analysts forecast the Global OTN Semiconductor market to grow at a CAGR of 34.3 percent over the period 2011-2015. One of the key factors contributing to this market growth is the increasing demand for high bandwidths to sustain high data traffic. The Global OTN Semiconductor market has also been witnessing the emergence of ultra-high-capacity optical networks. However, limited infrastructure for fiber optic networks could pose a challenge to the growth of this market.
WorldSpace has "mucho" NOLs plus they also have International content.
Wonder how big library Worldspace owns?
James Meyer (SIRI CEO) seems to be familiar with the global territory.
Here is an example from his bio.
Senior Executive Vice President, Digital Media Solutions of Thomson, a worldwide leader in consumer electronics.
From January 1997 to December 2001, Mr. Meyer served as Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Thomson Consumer Electronics. He was responsible for Thomson's Digital Media Solutions Business Unit, a global business serving the entertainment, broadcast and content industries, including such clients as Disney, Warner Brothers, Dreamworks, Microsoft, Direct TV, ABC and BBC.
Great info jel2maine. Noticed this:
Meyer said the company is exploring international markets, including Mexico.
That means they got other countries already lined up.
I know of at least 2 big cable companies that Liberty owns in Europe. Belgium and Germany also I believe Austria.
There are so many services that SIRI can get involved in.
They are still trading, so there is something there, we just don't know exactly what?
When SIRI was 900 mil in debt, then maybe 6 cents might be questionable
I bought SIRI Febr. 17, 2009 for pennies, before Malone invested 1/2 Billion (he is also known as "Darth Vader" in business circles).
Nobody knows exactly when it will go up and how much.
Look at the whole picture.
Would anyone like Malone plunk down 1/2 billion and even think that SIRI is a loosing proposition?
SIRI is out of debt, wow!!!
Olden debt days below....:o}
Date...........................Shares traded ............. Close
2000/02/17 .......... 1,367,800..................... $ 66.50
9 years later I bought SIRI for 0.18 cent SWEET!!!
About Malone and his connection to AT&T
CAREER:
In 1963, Malone began his business career at Bell Telephone Laboratories of AT&T, working in economic planning and research and development.
In 1968, he joined McKinsey & Company, and in 1970, became Group Vice President at General Instrument Corporation (GI).
He was later named President of Jerrold Electronics, a GI subsidiary.
For twenty-four years, from 1973 to 1996, Malone served as President and CEO of Tele-Communications Inc. (TCI).
Malone serves on the Boards of Directors for the Bank of New York, and the Cato Institute, Expedia.com.
Additionally, Malone is Chairman Emeritus of the Board for Cable Television Laboratories, Inc. and Chairman of Liberty Global, Inc., and the DirecTV Group.
He served as Director of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) from 1974 to 1977 and again from 1980 to 1993. During the 1977-1978 term, Malone was the NCTA's Treasurer.
In business dealings he has been dubbed "Darth Vader"
In 1994, Wired portrayed Malone on their cover as "Mad Max" from The Road Warrior, with an interview describing his battles with the FCC.
Wondering if someone is trying to buy the float. After all there is only 48 million public stock?
Great info Topdog, I am here!!!
topdowg11- And that is where the big money is and will be in the future. That is what the richest man in the world in Mexico answered when he was asked. All he said is Bandwidth.
Maybe some information will come out at the annual SIRI meeting on May21, 2013. I hope so!!!
I would be shocked if anyone who so called are in the "know" for example the Wall street anal-ysts, would actually admit that SIRI is fabulous and very successful now. (I remember when).......lol
Ask Malone and the longs. Seems to me that auto makers wouldn't invest a permanent installation of SIRI in their cars, if this is going to be a fly-by-night company.
All my friends and family and other people I know love their Sirius radio in their cars. I have never heard anyone uninstall or even cancel their subscription to Sirius and replacing it with regular radio.
Sounds like things are heating up all over, hope we are in the mix.
This was interesting:
Seems like Liberty Media owns the L-band broadcast frequency covering a huge swath of the globe, from the bankruptcy of WRSPQ.
Those companies represent the largest live music management and ticketing company, the leading U.S. satellite TV company and the sole satellite radio companies in domestic and international markets.
Malone has spoken of the potential to tie in Live Nation’s live concert and talent management with pay-per-view satellite broadcasts on television.
Now, with the ability to beam satellite radio around the world, Liberty Media has an even grander theoretical platform it could use.
Any thoughts about something being said in regards to WRSPQ at the SIRI conference call?
SIRI plans to release full year and fourth quarter 2012 financial and operating results on Tuesday, February 5, 2013.
Now that Liberty owns controlling shares of SIRI.
Sure looks like Liberty Media is taking control over many companies both in Europe as well as already have in SIRI.

=================================
Englewood, Colorado – January 14, 2013
Liberty Global, Inc. (“Liberty Global,” “LGI,” or the “Company”) (NASDAQ: LBTYA, LBTYB and LBTYK) today
announces that 9,497,637 ordinary shares and 3,000 warrants were tendered into the voluntary and conditional
cash offer (the “Offer”) launched by its wholly-owned subsidiary Binan Investments B.V. (“Binan”) on December
18, 2012 (Brussels time) for the outstanding shares and other securities giving access to voting rights of Telenet
Group Holding NV (“Telenet”) that it did not already own and that were not held by Telenet.
The official
announcement of the results in the Belgian financial press, in accordance with article 32 of the Belgian Royal
Decree of April 27 on public takeover bids, will take place on January 18, 2013 (Brussels time). Subject to
satisfaction (or waiver) of the conditions to the Offer on that date, this official announcement will also confirm
Binan’s acceptance of the tendered shares and warrants and whether or not a voluntary reopening of the Offer
will be made. Payment on tendered shares and warrants is intended to take place on February 1, 2013 (Brussels
time).
Following acceptance of the tendered shares, Liberty Global will hold 66,342,037 shares1 and 3,000 warrants2 in
Telenet. This represents approximately 58.4% of the issued and outstanding shares of Telenet (excluding the
220,352 treasury shares held by Telenet).3
Liberty Global notes that as stated in the prospectus for the Offer, it intends to align the strategy and the
operations of Telenet with the rest of the Company. Liberty Global is reviewing the current organization,
governance and reporting structure at Telenet with the intention of effecting a closer management integration of
Telenet within its European operations. Telenet's leverage policy will be aligned with that of Liberty Global such
that target leverage will be 4.0 to 5.0x net total debt to annualized EBITDA (excluding financial leases) and may
increase the indebtedness of Telenet to a level greater than this range.
Mike Fries, President and Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Global, commented: “We remain committed to
investing in growth opportunities for Telenet, maintaining its position as a leading innovator in the Belgian
market, and delivering best-in-class services to its customers. We believe that this is the right time for Telenet to
be more closely integrated within our pan-European platform and in an environment where scale is paramount,
we believe that closer integration will benefit all Telenet stakeholders.”
Wouldn't it be sweet if
Echostar and Liberty would be rivals in trying to get the licenses from WorldSpace (not sure what is left), but I do believe Liberty still has a finger in WorldSpace pot somewhere. I don't think the global idea was born yesterday. Malone usually has long term plans brewing.
Found this:
Liberty Global was the first major investor. Launching 8 to 12 satellites in 2013. Do a search OF O3b Networks and you will see where we are headed. Satellite internet, cell service, media.......ON A GLOBAL BASIS.
It could spike big, only 48 Mil. shares. They can be gobbled up quick.......:o} Awesome!!!
Looks like WorldSpace is a global play of some worth, and don't forget the NOLs those could come into play also.

Malone and Ergen have been rivals forever.....;o}
Funny that they both now have a tie in into WorldSpace.
Echo Star CEO Charlie Ergen (born March 1, 1953) is the co-founder and current Chairman of the Board, and former President and CEO of the Dish Network, formerly known as the EchoStar Communications Corporation. He stepped down in May 2011.
In many parts of the world they only have radio, plus if you go to public offices (dentists etc), they often have piped in music via radio. I am not sure how licenses work for bandwidth, but radio might be tied in in some way.
Someone mentioned bandwidth. Last year I saw an interview with the worlds richest man, a telecommunications giant from Mexico, who was interviewed and was asked, what is the best investment in the future. He said Bandwidth.
You read anything about Malone and you realize he is acrobatic when it comes to the taxman. This stock has NOLs and WorldSpace is a brand name, worth $, plus licenses, agreements and who knows what else. We don't know all the details of yet. You can rent space on Sats and if WorldSpace gets together with SIRI the Sats are already up. Many outcomes are possible.
Only 2 hrs. then the weekend. Glad I kept my stocks.
Is there a way to know how many are left in the float?
This can become a wild ride, especially because of the float only has 48 Mil. shares and the NOLs. Just waiting.....;o}
I agree thought the same...;o}
Worldspace is sure marching on. Thanks 1world. very interesting find!!!
