It's not about hiding. Why would you even be invested in a company that you thought was dishonest, lying, a scam, a sham? I would call that gambling not investing. I would then think that your only in it for the money and if that is the case, then I don't respect your opinions because they are slanted and emotionally driven and I really don't care what you think. Did you read my post? Nothing wrong with management wanting to review before releasing imo. A smart move imo but like I said, I wouldn't even broadcast.
Live webcast. I'm not that happy they are even broadcasting the shm at all. I would rather wait for news after the fact. What if the shm is live? Right now it seems to be set up for anyone to see; that means reporters, lawyers etc. We all know how easy it is to misinterpret, read into, etc. At least an hour DOES give them time to edit. Of course you would want to edit! Are you going to invite a pack of wolves to dinner and expect them to have manners?
RRuder. I believe this type of reponse is indicative of alot of investors on this board. The PR had links to each point. The opening paragraph was a hint of future things to come. It addressed alot of shareholders concerns as posted by this board imo with regard to Mexico, China, Germany, R&D money, timing, and general info. I personally, am weary of the Eeyore posts. How about posting a different 'fictitous' PR using the same info that was presented in this one? How would you write it? What would it look like? I am just curios to know so I can understand where you are coming from.
Don, my understanding, which may be wrong, is that all divisions can function by themselves and be income producing but to create the 'superhub' which is the ultimate goal would not be achievable if sold off?
Ok, who could they sell it to and how would that impact GlobeTel. Would they not them have to pay to utilize it (unless I don't understand its true purpose. Anybody want to define/explain Centerline and its service and purpose?)
How do you think the sale of Centerline would improve PPS?
Not to start anything, but just to keep the discussion going. Which division and why and how much do you think you could get for it based on financials? Centerline is the only one producing revenues but from reports it is in the down cycle of it's usage and may not be worth anything to anybody.
Magic money is not off the ground yet. StratePhone is up but no numbers yet (hasn't even been a month?) Strat - a money pit a this point.
That leaves Globetel wireless (imo) but it is not running yet and is reported to be the most profitable unit and really needs the other 4 to operate...
At the moment, GlobeTel Wireless is our leading contender for near term profitability on a significant scale. Like the other Divisions, GlobeTel Wireless will achieve its greatest potential when it is integrated with our (i) Stratelliteä near-space airship, (ii) our “Magic Money” digital, Stored Value Cards, (iii) our StrateVoIP telephony services, and (iv) our Centerline switching backbone which will tie many of these services together into a neat GlobeTel bundle
I'm not sure I would agree with you at this point.
I am curious. I ask everyone. What would they do if they were the CEO or in management. I would ask that you consider the current financial situation (i.e. Paying employees, cash flow, R&D, expenses, etc etc). I am curious how anyone would handle this or do something different. Also you would need to factor in the time it would take in addition to the daily tasks and deals currently on the table or being worked on. Just asking?
For those going to the SHM.
I think it would be very appropriate to watch this clip
http://www.amex.com/?href=/atamex/news/events/2005/br_GTE_053105.htm
about Globetel/Huff ringing the opening bell at Amex 5/31/05 and the subsequent interview with Huff and to hold them 'somewhat' accountable for the things that were said iby Tim. I would like to know what changed in a year from what he said (as things do and things need to change direction sometimes) what things were accomplished as mentioned and what was completely out of line?
Any comments after review?
No seriously - Vonage is the main sponsor!
No I would get it going in live 'beta' form first. Really common in the industry. The product is really a giant software program and quick to get ROI but not if it sucks or doesn't work well. Your better to sell 10 copies that work sort of (and get feed back) than sell 1,000,000 that sort of work and get a large scale backlash. Less word getting out on the street the better; work on the fixes, patches then when it'
s solid sell the hell out of it. But that's JMVHO.
Damn Ronaldinho is good!
As someone else said though, if it took Dumas a year, it's going to take everyone else quite a while too
See the letter again in it's entirety. I don't think that understanding the jargon or technology was what he was referring to. He was referring to Tim's vision of what Globetel was to be and how Tim was going to take us there. All five units firing at the same time but operating independently but cohesively also creating a Global telecom company that helps people, esp. those less fortunate to be 'wired in' (or 'Sans' wired in) and creating a Super Hub.
Widd, I don't have the link but maybe somebody else does; Huff did a podcast last year that explained why Globetel's superhub and VoIP is superior. The gist of it was, that the packets flow more or less in order and therefore less time therefore better quality. He referenced when you open a web site and you see the bar at the bottom when the page is loading, that is when the packets are coming in scrabbled and getting assembled.
Anyone have that link?
Ok Pit. Would that be before the "brought to you by Vonage" or after? Heehee - that would be funny. I'm pretty sure when you sponsor an event it is written into the contract that 'no competing' company sponsorship is permitted. Maybe I'm off base but I doubt it. Or maybe your talking Univision's coverage.
BTW - I DONT WANT THEM SPENDING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ON COMMERCIALS at this point, the technology is hardly proven. Worst thing you can do in programming is assume. Test test test. IMHO this rollout is a test.
No, thank you Symphyl - you cleared some things up for me too.
My feeling has been that I must trust some things to the company. I appreciate people keeping the company honest but there are some things that just don't seem like they need to be explained to everyone. Henry Ford had a car - not every investor knew how it worked; most people that use computers are still unaware of zero's and one's making it work. etc. etc.
Sometimes I think we need to trust our little potential giant more. So much on this board instills doubt imvhho.
But to contradict myself, I do appreciate understanding or trying to understand the technology and what the company is planning/trying to do. But not in such a way that I say "hey they are crazy or 'it will never' work" just because I don't get it. That is what I felt was going on a lot here on the board (i.e. Stratephone->vozbrasil) lately and I happened to respond to that on your post.
Ok, so let's talk now because I believe you have alot more technical knowledge than I do.
Why couldn't one Strat send and receive data over say a 100 mile radius? Right now you have hotspots all over major mets that work with each other but when you get outside their range you lose your connection. Verizon has installed a bunch in their old Telephone booths. Why not GlobeTel's Hotzone's and the Strat broadcasts to those and those to the user?
What am I missing?
Symphly. I really think people need to really really really read the PR's and all the other information about what the company is doing. Read the Dumas letter and listen to Huff's Cowen interview. I really think it is all there. Your post seemed very very intelligent in nature and graphs etc. but I can't see how you would even come to a silly conclusion like needing multi strats to service a 200 mile radius.
From what I know, which isn't a whole lot in my opinion, Strats don't fly. They hover in one spot 13miles above the earth. They will broadcast to devices (aka hotspots) on the ground. They can then avoid the problem with line of sight because they are so high. In the Dumas letter and others it is clear to me that the strat is only one piece of the whole picture. This company is about Global communications. Huff wants his own internet and then he wants to charge for the usage on a subscriber basis. If he has his own 'superhub' as he calls it and controls it then it isn't bogged down with the overhead etc. that runs on the web now. I know I am spewing right now but really look at the big picture; and also realize that it is not a big secret. They have been forth coming but we have all had $$$$$$ in our eyes. This is potentially bigger than most can imagine. Centerline (which imo will be phased out next year if all goes well), StratePhone (Voice) the first hook imo - gets the kinks out, Magic money (Data)- works out security issues, Hotzone/Wimax/Strat (Media/TV) - final piece = Global SuperHub. Scary stuff, I am glad that it is in the public sector, I hope it stays that way.
Sirius, what are you referring to in re: to me? My recent post was in reply to the posts about multiple strats needed over chicago (hence the reference). Please don't pull me into something I never commented on or referenced. I have no comment on the "fire" status update as mentioned yesterday.
My understanding is that the Hotzone/WiMax units will be in place "before" a Strat comes into play. Think about how a Satellite does it. The Strat is like having a 13mile tower.
The strat feeds the units on the ground and they will broadcast to each other and to the CPE or other device for the end user. I don't think it is such a problem as you folks are suggesting (i.e. 13 Strats to cover Chicago), and really kind of a silly suggestion as they could of pocketed all the R&D money. Do you really think the NASA guys are that stupid or made such a gross mistake? That's really kind of insulting.
No offence Cab but should you be investing if you don't know the answer? Supply and demand? Those willing to buy and those willing to sell? Cheers, just ribbing ya.
Please let's try and not blow THIS one out of proportion. (BTW - are you loonies still calling VozBrasil to see if the phone number changed or if THEY REALLY are going to be 24/7?)
Last paragraph, not news, see bold...

Status update. Status update.
I wouldn't get all your knickers in a twist just yet. It's not a PR. It's the company saying to the shareholders what they are involved in. There is no deal. It is in testing. Read the last paragraph very closely. Should, would, could, might, maybe, hopefully. You know they learned something from the Russian fiasco I believe. This is good copy. I highly doubt, and really hope that nobody in the news picks it up; I would guess that's why it is not a PR.
I beg to differ. Listen to it again. There was no apology. He stated that the engineering menatality that exists is a good fit with the financial experience on the BOD. I think your trying to lead people wrong here.
Ahhhhhhh, so nice and quiet here. Feels good.
Since I am the only one here right now it seems (oh ya Pit, hello) I will spew a little.
Get a grip ya bunch of Eeyores. Freak'n complaining all the time, blaming the company, looking for YOUR personal PR. Read the Dumas letter, no PR until the end of the month - imo
And, instead of trying to be Mulder and Scully how many of you complainers have contacted anybody you know or anybody you know that might know someone in or from Brasil?
Have you seen the two web sites? www.vozbrazil.com and www.iligue.com.br They are incredibly good. Very professional and without a doubt costly, alot of programming went into those sites I bet. Tell your friends to check out the sites. Get the word out.
Seriously. Have a good weekend all. Hang in there. I've lost a bundle so far too! Be positive.
This kind of bashing usually takes place right before a PR to climb in my experience.
I personally disagree with the statements from some posters that because Globetel declared themselves "a premier communications/interaction company" that doesn't mean they are prepared for or setup to do webcasting. I have a software company, should write software in all programming languages? Should I write software for all industries? No.
At any rate, maybe it would be more helpful to present GTE IR with some options and save them some leg work. Maybe someone else could organize it and set it up for Management. Then send Globetel a quote. Then all they need to do is create a PO and then pay the invoice.
At least this way we will all know what it takes to do it, and if someone really investigates you will know exactly how much it would cost rather than "our" collective speculation that it shouldn't be that expensive.
BTW - i would defintely watch, I just don't feel it is 'their' responsibility, nor something for 'me' to 'demand'.

Definitions of Webcast on the Web...
1. The delivery of live or delayed sound or video broadcasts using web technologies. The sound or video is captured by conventional video or audio systems. It is then digitised and streamed on a web server.
www.liv.ac.uk/webteam/glossary/
2. The term that is used to describe an audio or video broadcast that is conducted over the World Wide Web. Webcast usually refers to a live streaming production.
www.channelstorm.com/Manual/Data/GL00/GL00.htm
3. The term "Webcasting" is used to describe the ability to use the Web to deliver live or delayed versions of sound or video broadcasts. NetTalk Live! is an example of the former. They use an Internet site to deliver a RealAudio sound version of a live radio and television program at 11 pm (CST) each Sunday night. (They call this a triplecast.)
www.cesa8.k12.wi.us/media/digital_dictionary.htm
4. A transmission of sound and images via the World Wide Web.
dhfs.wisconsin.gov/webcast/glossary.htm
5. A broadcast of a piece of work via the Internet, either as a streaming media presentation or a downloadable file. Webcasting requires the site owner to obtain a pair (at least) of licences from the copyright holder and relevent PRS, no matter where the work is sourced from or delivered to.
bandfoundry.draftlight.net/resources/dictionary.php
6. (Internet Broadcasting) Is the process of capturing, encoding, hosting and delivering multimedia events, such as training, infomercials, concerts, meetings, or conferences, usually from a remote location, for Internet broadcast on a one-time or limited basis. Live events usually require establishing an Internet connection and/or links for streaming over the Internet. Events can also be archived for viewing on demand.
www.ucla.cyberstuff.net/glossary_digital_media.htm
7. A webcast is similar in intent to a broadcast television program but designed for internet transmission. Webcast clients allow a user to connect to a server, which is distributing (webcasting) the webcast, and displays the televisual content to the user.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webcast
Mide, a webcast would be nice but could also be a nightmare.
There are so many variables. What if they spend the time and money and the server goes down because it can't handle the requests. All the time and money is out the drain.
I can't believe they are taking the time to answer all those questions as it is, so I personally don't feel owed.

My ears are a burning! Howdy Mide, how are you ? I figure you were refering to me so I will respond. BTW - Please don't take my rant today personal - that's why it was not a reply but a 'Public Post'.
As I mentioned yesterday, I agree with you and Low.
Please see my post #15565 dated 2/17/06, or maybe you've read it already as it seems very aligned with yours and Low's.
But I will respond as I do feel 'called out'; IT IS NEVER BLACK AND WHITE which some people really really need it to be (Bean counters sign in here please). I don't personally need the whole picture black and white - but since 2/17 feel that it has been. I cannot say enough about the Dumas letter which yes I will mention again,
http://www.globetel.net/about/letter033106.html
I could go on and on but then I'd become boring to myself and others so I leave with this.
DOS sucked! A piece of crap program. Gates didn't have anything when he told IBM that he did, (was Microsoft public then? anyone) and he paid someone, I can't remember if they worked for AT&T or what but this guy took a copy of C at the time (which was probably more B and Dennis Ritchie's to begin with) and he stripped it down to be single user and changed a few things (forward slash to backward and vice-a-versa) and a bunch of other stuff. I think Gates paid him $50 and showed it to IBM the next day as his. What a dink because DOS sucked and always has - but it was it's short comings and Gates vision that really mattered!! (And while we are on the subject. Jobs stole the whole GUI from Xerox). Do you think they told the shareholders? I mean come on, let's get some sense here. We don't have to know every little detail esp. if they don't come to fruition. And I believe that Huff believes Huff, and is every bit of a salesman as he is an engineer (I bet he could talk a dog off a meat truck!), and I know that all those (good) sales guys believe what comes out of their mouths more than anyone, that's why they are good (and needed for companies!). So imagine that last yr he was new, excited, thought the Strat was going to fly by Sept. but then got into it (after a PR or two) and ran into some red tape. What's he going to do - PR that?!! No everyone would complain that's what brought the price down. So you learn and move on. I don't care if he dangled a carrot in my face cause "caveat emptor" and I believe this company will soar.
Again I don't disagree with you about the lack of some information but I try to sit back and see what happens. Let the company work. Just because we all smell a big payoff and have invested doesn't give us the right to hassle. Let me ask everyone here who bitches and complains and calls the company out 3 times a week. How many other company stocks do you own?? Are you this involved with them? Because you should be, same rights, privelages apply with them too. Let's keep the offices and mgmt honest but also not go off half cocked every other day.
There, now I've done it, I've bored myself. g-nite
Msturgeo, I know I'm probably just as guilty as anyone but I really got frustrated today with the posts.
Oh and from the same letter...
Simultaneously, plans are currently underway to begin construction of Sanswire III, our first commercial variant, for expected delivery to a Latin American country for use in digital communications and border security. The completion, final testing and delivery of Sanswire III is targeted for early 2007.
You know I will take a lot a flak for this but YOUR ALL NUTS sometimes. Take a step back from the board, your computer, too much coffee, looking at the PPS every 5 minutes, checking for PR's, Googling Globetel/sanswire/Byron/Seth etc etc etc etc.
Yeesh! Wed. it was "not" enough information. Thurs. it was hey great lots of information. Friday is lawsuit BS and 'hey where's my information!'.
HEY YOU GUYS, YOU DON'T WORK FOR GLOBETEL! YOUR AN INVESTOR! AND ALBEIT A SMALL ONE I BET VS. Caterham. Why not apply for a job if you have time all day whining and sounding off. Freakn eh! Ya can't contain yerselves. Gotta bitch, bitch, bitch. "It's no good, it will never work." What' a bunch of
complainers today. Why, because we had some info yesterday and the price didn't go up?? I WANT THE PRICE TO GO UP WHEN WE SEE MONEY IN THE BANK AND THE COMPANY HAS CASH FLOW AND POSTIVE REVENUE'S AND A GOOD INCOME STATEMENT AND OPERATES IN THE BLACK ALL THE TIME. THAT'S WHAT REALLY DRIVES STOCK PRICES UP! LET THEM DO THEIR WORK TO PRODUCE THAT.
Try this one from Dumas on 3/2006 - Please read again and again...
The Sanswire team is planning to flight test Sanswire II, our final “technology demonstrator”, in the immediate future at Edwards Air Force Base. Currently, Sanswire II is undergoing various systems tests and systems integration at our Palmdale, California facility. We’re waiting for clearance from the Edwards Range for the test flights. Having floated Sanswire II in the California desert at the end of February, our Stratelliteä Division, under the energetic and visionary leadership of former NASA Mission Director and decorated Air Force Pilot, Bob Jones, is now prepared to commence its high altitude testing in June, and continue through the summer. First, however, there will be further testing of various subsystems leading to further tethered flight tests. The tethered tests will be followed by un-tethered taxi tests at Palmdale, which is located just a short distance from Edwards AFB. After validating and completing the Combined Systems tests, we will conduct an un-tethered flight test at Edwards, and this is when we will be preparing ourselves, shortly thereafter, to break the World Altitude Record for an Advanced Rigid Airship
What is so unclear about that???
No offence to anyone but I find this thread suspicious.
There is no sharing of information with all here. Just for the record I'm not aboard this particular crusade. I would prefer 'The Company', GlobeTel to handle it as they see fit.
FYI. www.globetel.net getting lots more traffic.
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/main?q=&url=www.globetel.net
Logan, STRAT is key IMO. Without Strat you can't compete with Mobile/Cell Telco's. That is the final piece. Yes the others can operate independantly but the Strat is the key IMO.
I urge everyone not to get too excited about Strat news this month. Remember stair step test. You can't just float up something you paid alot in R&D and have it bomb. I believe the first PR will be a succesful flight at a record height. That may take longer than 90days.
Mide, well put. My emotion gets the better of me when reading this board. I did not follow my gut, instincts and experience about the Russian deal and has since made me sit back and really look where my money is and why in Globetel. I have tried to make it a positive experience out of a negative and to make decisions based on my own. I believe that since then we have gotten alot of straight forward information from the company. I continue to hope that the emotions don't get the better of management with re: to PR's.
Being in IT for 20+ years I got charmed by the Strat. initially but got really excited by the SuperHub combined with CenterLine, it then started to fall into place for me.
Maybe there is an opening for you expertise and experience at Globetel now or in the immediate future, you would seem to bring alot to the table.
Great agreed.
So what is the timeline for the demise of Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, Bell Canada, T-Mobile (Telekom and T-Mobile USA), AllTel, Cingular, Nokia, Sony, Alcatel, Motorola, Ericcson, QUALCOMM, Orange, Virgin, Vodaphone to name a few IYO?
Why wouldn't they (companys above) just wait for the Strat to prove itself (which by GTE's own omission today it has not) and then buy coverage from Globetel and start producing their own DECT phones?
I think we as investors need to think realistically and not get all caught up and start looking for drama. (Not saying you are). I think there is a lesson to be learned from the Russian deal/no deal. Huff is a great salesperson and obviously very technical and savvy. Let's not get carried away and then when 6mos from now not everyone in Mexico, Phillipines and Brazil has a DECT phone we cry foul to the management.
Straight/Mide. Yes I agree with your points, but really want to point out that we all need to step back a moment from our emotions and conspiracy theories imo. This stuff has to be proven in a real world situation and that will take time.
The point I was making was that there is always opportunity in every situation and I don't believe cell phone companies will be put out of business. How quick we all are to say, "this will crush that" or "Cellular companies will go under" or "my Dad can beat up your Dad!".
People are fickle. It's hard to tell what they will go for and why. I've been to Europe alot and have alot of European friends. They travel alot and their cell phones mean alot to them. I didn't hear a plan on how to handle that. In a day you can visit 4 countries by car in some places. There is governments to consider and 'socialistic' governmental behavior that want to protect their own home grown companies.
Large companies usually wait for the something new to take hold and when they start losing revenue is when they take notice and then slowly rumble along and swallow up, hardly ever before; IBM in 70's/80,s. Verizon lately with FiOS. Apple in 90's and a slew of others.
Also let's take a minute to applaud Globetel management for getting 3-1/2 of the 5 entities firing in 2 years. Sounds like by July 06 the 4 will be complete and by 2008 the 5th.
Not to jump on Mide but I believe you have to have faith that they have a plan for marketing and sales. Hell maybe Huff will visit Scully and make him a pitch, stranger things have happened. (I hope Huff reads that as - "Hey John do you want to change the world again?" - Reference "Pepsi to Apples")
Straight. I beg to differ. The range of the DECT phone is what 2 miles (as per the session today? Anyone confirm/deny?) hardly a reason in a large metro area to carry around your DECT phone in place of a mobile.
What people need is really available now in a sense. You have your mobile on, on the way to work; you get to work and switch it so that mobile calls now route to your VoIP phone and vice-a-versa when you leave. This is capable now. The services Globetel will be offering, imvho, will be compliments to Mobiles etc. at a lower rate for customers. In addition, mobile companies own satellites now and/or lease usage which is very expensive, they can really cut their costs buying time/services from a Strat and recoup loses from lowered customer rates. Just my opinion. If I was a Verizon or AT&T I'd be knocking on GTE's door and or investing.
I think folks are missing the big picture. It's not necessarily that 50% of the worlds population have never made a phone call.
It's empowering countries and people to communicate with the rest of the world. GLOBAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS.
