well I haven`t seen any new news.
no direct effect. but any wireless expanision is positive for companies like Clyw, but there is noe link between this deal any Clyw or any of their competitors!!!
excuse me, but how many times can a company send out the same press release? This time it is chip manufactors the mention, but it is the same boring press realease talking about the patent and how big clyw thinks this is going to be. What about something new and stopp sending out the same boring message?
This is from another norwegian article. Birdsteps Mobile IP Client software were used by several companies at 3GSM in Cannes in February. Motorola who are in talks with Birdstep were one of the companies used their software. Others were companies like Ericsson, Intel, Cisco, Nortel and Alcatel which allready have offical partnerships with Birdstep. Regarding the University project from T-Mobile (Deutsche Telekom): This is an article where Birdstep CEO Jørgen Bredesen confirms that they are involved in this project. The article which I showed you earlier is from 6.May this year, so its a HUGE possibility that things are going well with the T-Mobile Birdstep relationship:
This is from an older article (2/3 2004)
To interessante annonseringer
TRANSLATION TO ENGLISH
Birdstep attended the 3GSM event i Cannes last week. The achievment for the norwegian mobile company were good, they were present at both Intel and Motorolas stand and others.
-"You get a different feedbasck when you`re at stand together with companies like INTEL. Beacuse people take INTEL`s aprove as a proof of the quality of our technology," Bredesen says to Imarkedet
-"Motorola is new, what are you doing with them"?
-"We were invited to their stand. It is nothing commercial here yet," Bredesen says to Imarkedet
Two interesting annoucement
Bredesen says there was to interesting announcement
To interessante annonseringer during the event.
One was that Deutsche Telekom confirms that the WLAN technology can be rolled out as a complementary technology to the 3G (CDMA and UMTS) technology. Therfore it seems that the german company won`t stand in the way of the breakthrough for certain (Tainor thinks WLAN!!)technologies. They large mobile operators have been working against 3G competing technology until now.
Bredesen Confirms that Birdstep are in talks with Deutsche Telekom
-"We can confirm that we are aware of their project," Bredesen says to Imarkedet
He continues, and tells that there haven`t been taking any final decision concerning the Deutsche Telekom project.
"There are no conclusions here yet. They are still runing pilots," Bredesen tells.
I wouldn`t get my hope up to high when it comes to T-Mobile and Calypso. T-Mobile have already signed with Pctel for roaming between hotspots and this solution also support roaming between cellular and wifi which means Birdstep Client. Birdstep are also in direct talks with Deutsche Telekom which owns T-Mobile. Birdstep is probably the provider of software for seamless roaming in this project. I can`t see anythin linking Calypso and T-mobile together, but there is several statments from Birdstep CEO linking Birdstep and T-mobile together and Birdstep are also allready involved with T-mobile through Pctel agreement and through various agreements for their hotspot-software. Birdstep are integrated in T-mobile hotspot at Texaco gas-stations in UK!!:
T-Mobile and Pctel: http://www.unstrung.com/document.asp?doc_id=49354
Birdstep and Pctel: http://www.shareholder.com/pctel/ReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=112679
This is a statement from CEO Jørgen Bredesen at their 1 quarter result in 2004. He confirms that Birdstep are in talks with Deutsche Telekom, a lap-top manufactor, 15 Mobile Operators, 30 enterprises, 2 major infrastructure companies and several hotspot players.
Deutsche Telekom (T-Mobile) and Birdstep:
Håper på T-Mobile
Et annet selskap Birdstep-sjefen valgte å snakke om i dag var Deutsche Telekoms mobilselskap T-Mobile.
T-Mobile skal tilby såkalt sømløs roaming i løpet av året. Dette er midt i Birdsteps nisje.
- Jeg har gjennom ulike jobber hatt god kontakt med Deutsche Telekom i 15 år, og det har vi nå også, sier Bredesen.
Translated to english:
Hope on T-mobile
Another companye the Birdstep CEO choose to talk about today was Deutsche Telekoms mobile company T-Mobile.
T-Mobile will offer Seamless roaming within this year. This is what Birdstep can offer.
"I`ve had good realtionship with Deutsche Telekom through various jobs for 15 years, and we are also having a good relationship with Deutsche Telekom today," Bredesen says.
There are others solutions than Calypso. The best solution today is probably Birdstep Mobile IP Client which is the only non-propetary solution available and this is also the solution most major companies (Intel, Cisco, Lucent, Pctel,Alcatel, Ericsson, Hp, Nortel, Motorol, Capgemini and more) work with, and its also on the market today. Other companies which have propetary solution include Ecutel, Netmotion, Ipunplugged and Netseal. Calypso is probably one or two year behind these companies. All of these companies have products in the market and most of them have been tested by several major players.
I think my question was a bit clumsy, I`m sorry about that! What I meant is that it looks to me as CLYW needs aditional software which the Birdstep Mobile IP client don`t need, beacuse The BMIP can cooperate with existing infrastructure and for example autmaticly switch on and off VPN solution. I may be wrong about this, but is it right that the ASNANP consist of at least three parts: a gateway, server and a client? If, so then this is almost the same solution as Ipunplugged or Netmotion(non mobile ip). It looks like it is a propetary solution which will make it difficult to get acceptance by most of the major players since most of them ( for example Vodafone) are looking towards a open solution which can cooperate with existing infrastructure withouth additional software. Again i might be wrong, but i think you guys should take a look at the netmotion solution, it looks quite similar to me.
I understand. I was just hoping someone could answer this. Beacuse i quite sure that Asnap is an prop solution, but not 100%, so I`m just wondering if anyone knows!
I have a question on CLYW! As far as I can see on the product describtion ASNAP is a propetary solution, this could means that the solution will compete with existing VPN solutions and therefore be in competion with major software vendor such as Microsoft, Cisco, Nortel and Checkpoint. Why should software companies such as Microsoft choose such a solution when the Birdstep solution can cooperate with existing VPN solution by automaticly switching it off? The major mobile operators has also stated that their looking for seamless roaming based on an open architecture, as far as I know Birdstep are the only one offering such a solution! By the way. I wouldn`t expect MSFT if I we`re you!
well now i think I was right. the PPI numbers today was good if you look at the Core PPI (thats what counts). I think nasdaq will test 2050 in a short while, if it breaks 2050, then we`ll see new tops for nasdaq this year. Based on that info and since CLYW is a tech share, then I will buy som CLYW stocks today, beacuse I thin there will be a tech rally soon.
ok, thanks. I wasn`t sure!
I`m not sure if I get tou. So fare I haven`t made any personal attacks, and I never will, beacuse thats not in my nature. But do you think Nasdaq, Birdstep and T-mobile news is off topic? It`s just an honest question, beacuse I`m not sure if you think I have voilated any rules. I that is the case, then I`m sorry and will behave!
Yes i agree, but you have to able to discuss market realted issues like competitors, technology, market moves from big player and the development in the general stock market. beacuse there is no secret that Clyw, Bird or other technology related stocks will have bigger chance to rise if the market in general is in an upwards trend. Thats why i sent my Nasdaq comment, of course I was a bit cocky, but hey thats my, hehe. I think Clyw will have a fari chance of rising a bit now!!
Whats with all the deleted messages? Was that Invst having a go at me? why, beacuse i think i found the bottom at Nasdaq before it was confirmed? Well, well if you can`t state your opinion without being bashed, then it`s a cruel world. Well I`m not 100% sure that we hit bottom, but Europe is having a rally at the moment, if your PPI numbers today and CPI tommorow are ok, the i think Nasdaq will clim fast towards 2000 again. Always by when the crowd shout sell, hehe.
hehe, nice try. check the time one my first post. I through Nasdaq was turning when climbing up from 1880 the second time today, of course others have seen the same thin, but I was right anyway, hehe. I know you don`t want me to be right but the fact is that is said Nasdaq was hitting dobble bottoum when it was well under 1900 today, check for youself. Maybe you thought the same thin, but I can`t see any post confirming that you did, hehe.
Hello isn`t there anybody here to praise mye tip, hehe. well Nasdaq has probably hit buttom for a long while, i think we will pass 2000 in next week if there is noting extraordinary negative information in the market. Well, well I think i proved that I`m good for something, hehe.
would you look at that turnaround, i think i was right. This look like a classic turnaround. I think Nasdaq have hit the buttom and that we will have a major rise in the coming days, anyone agree?
Im not that interested in CLYW but i think the share will rise because there may be a dobble buttom (I`m not sure of the einglish term) on Nasdaq 1880, strong support here. Just a wild tip from my side. So I would say there is a fare chance that Clyw will rise with the market.
It depends. it can be set to just connect to nets which provides a certain speed, but if the net provides such a speed then the client automaticly detect the net when the device is within the radius of the signal from the net. So if you`re a long way from the "accesspoint" of the hotspot and the signal strenght is weak, then you won`t automaticly connect, otherwise the client switch automaticly after establishing connection to the Wifi-network.
Stock issue at a dump price within one or two months is my guess. We`ll have to wait and see.
not at the moment. I`ll buy if they`re stuck issue will generate enough money. I just don`t like the way they pump up their press realeses, after all there are a lot of stupid people out there, and maybe someone actually thinks Microsoft or Intel is involved in this. We`ll have to wait and see but i recongnize this pattern from other companies, the question is when and how big the sotck issue will be. I think the company is in big trouble if they can`t get their 5 million dollars. After alle CLYW have a small cash position at the moment.
More names, no real news!
But i think he should be more careful talking about stuff he don`t know about. I`ve given you proof that Birdstep Mobile IP Client can roam between cellular and wifi so that is a proven fact. I can post the Alcatel agreement or the product describtion again. It wasn`t what she wrote i was irritated at, It is the fact that the CLYW CEO talks when his not sure, he is assuming, and I have proven you guys that he is assuming wron. He is not directly lying, but he`s behvaing quite strange, talking about things he`s not sure of. I`ll show you the Alcatel press realese for the last time, to prove that Birdstep Mobile IP Client can roam between cellular and Wifi. If you need more can get more proof as well.
Alcatel, Birdstep and Gemplus join forces to offer secure and seamless service continuity between mobile networks and WLAN
Paris, April 27, 2004 - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE:ALA), a worldwide leader in telecommunications network equipment, applications and services, Birdstep Technology, a global provider of Mobile IP software client technology and Gemplus International S.A. (Euronext: LU0121706294 - GEM and NASDAQ: GEMP), the world's leading provider of smart card based solutions, announced today an alliance to jointly develop, promote and market the industry's most secure solution for seamless service continuity between GSM/GPRS/EDGE, UMTS or CDMA mobile networks and WLAN. This alliance will also apply to emerging technologies such as WiMAX.
This collaboration will enable users of laptops and PDAs to have an "always best connected" experience at any time, and to seamlessly profit from a smart card (SIM) based secure handover between heterogeneous access networks, ensuring the highest data rate, relying on a single subscription.
Alcatel will integrate the new Birdstep's intelligent Mobile IP client software into its Evolium™ multi-access offering. This will enable seamless roaming across multiple access networks, with a smart card (SIM) enabled client software designed by Gemplus for secured wireless communications and transactions. This unique combination will provide mobile operators with the best of breed solution for secure mobile broadband service continuity.
All it requires is the client software to be installed on the end-users' Mobile/WLAN enabled laptop or PDA and the SIM card to be integrated in a PCMCIA card inside the laptop. In the near future, the SIM will be in a USB key plugged onto the PDA, or simply inside a BlueTooth-enabled handset. As soon as users pass by a WLAN hot spot, the intelligent client software automatically notifies the end-user of broadband services availability directly accessed in a totally transparent manner.
"The Birdstep Mobile IP client software has evolved to meet the demands of infrastructure vendors and other component vendors who want to provide seamless mobility with their solutions", commented Jørgen Bredesen, chief executive officer of Birdstep Technology. "By jointly creating end-to-end seamless solutions for operators, our alliance with Alcatel and Gemplus will provide a one-stop-shop for the market in need of secure seamless mobility."
"The Gemplus smart card authentication solution allows service providers to offer a totally reliable and convenient tool for accessing a network, WLAN, GPRS or even 3G, while providing the same user experience", declared Jacques Seneca, Executive Vice President, Gemplus Business Development Group. "The partnership with Alcatel and Birdstep establishes a consistent offer for providing a unique experience for seamless mobile data access via a laptop or a PDA."
"Alcatel's vision is to consider the end-user at the center of the mobile experience by offering solutions guaranteeing totally transparent access to services from any device, regardless of the access technology," stated Marc Rouanne, Chief Operating Officer of Alcatel's mobile activities. "Our alliance with Birdstep and Gemplus supports this strategy and allows us to provide operators with new business opportunities based on the complementary interaction of their mobile networks today with WLAN, tomorrow with WiMAX."
That is wrong! I`m surprised a CEO will say something like that. The Birdstep Mobile IP Client can roam between wifi and it can also roam from cellular to wifi.
Fair enough. I totally respect your right to express your opinion, and you seem like a reasonable guy. We wont find the answer before a year or so. I personally don`t think Clyw will be a major success, but that is probably beacuse i don`t have any CLYW shares today and have bought a lot Birdstep shares in the last couple of days. However their will be a shar issue in CLYW, that is almost certain, based on comments made in the Sec filing. I think the recent press realeses is connected to this share issue.
Yeah that is a theoreticly possibility, but i find it quite strange that Clyw mention large companies in almost all their press realeses and the large companies haven`t mentioned CLYW once. Cisco have written numerous of Articles or case studies on seamless mobility, but haven`t mentioned Clyw or their technology once. You can look her where you see for example Birdstep and their competitor Ipunplugged mentioned (after figure 7) http://www.cisco.com/en/US/netsol/ns341/ns396/ns177/networking_solutions_white_paper09186a00802252b2...
What i find strange about Clyw is the continous use of large names in agreements with small/medium players. Ok, once or twice is ok, but Clyw has done this with their four latest press realeses, and none of the mentioned companies is actually involved in the actual agreement. That Cisco technology is involved in wireless technology is not that strange, since Cisco is on of the few major players that actually earn money on Wireless (internet realted, wifi). I can`t see any reason for Clyw to mention Cisco and their ticker code in this realese. Nedetel is the othe part directlyinvolved here not cisco.
nedetel gives 72 hits on google, so it`s probably not the biggest player in Ecuador. http://www.nedetel.com/ this ist the homepage, which is really slow by the way.
Probably an ok agreement, but again. cisco is not involved in this, so why mention Cisco. I think its to get focus. So far CLYW has gathered agreements in Ecuador and Romania, not the most advanced countries. But they`ve managed to mention Cisco and Vodafone, two companies that is not involved in any of the agreements!
I`m not that sure about Asia, but I think the court system is similiar. It`s difficult to describe, I don`t know if you know the basic differences between US and european court system? One exampel Is the Clyw patent, If Clyw clain patent for someone like Birdsteps use of seamless roaming, then CLYW claim the patent for the idea of seamless roaming, since ASNAP has nothing to do with the methods used in Birdstep Mobile IP Client. In Europe you can`t claim patent for an Idea, so this patent would probably not have been accepted in Europe with same use of words, beacuse the Eurpean court system won`t tolerate patent on this use of an idea that existed long before CLYW claimed the patent. But i don`t know about Asia and America, but in US I`m totally open for CLYW winning, beacuse the american court system i believe can be more patent-focused, and it`s no secret that US have a whole other story when it comes to lawsuits!
Yeah I agree, time will tell. I`m no expert on this field either, I know a lot about Birdstep technology and economic aspects, but mye legal knowledge is limited. But I think have a fairly good view on the difference between USA and Europe regarding this. I believe Europe is a no hope case for CLYW, but in US i have no idea, maybe 50-50? But i think It`s a good topic to discuss, for Bird-people ass well as you Clyw shareholders. But when it comes to technology I still think Birdstep is a long way ahead of Clyw, since their income from Mobile Ip client was as expected and recent agreements with Alcatel, Ericsson and Nortel will not affect the results before the third or fourth quarter. If, you won`t to know, Birdstep said at there first quarer presentation that they`re in dissucisons with 15 mobile operators, on major laptop manufactor (they confirmed that it`s not Dell) and to major infrastructur provider. A guy who has showned a lot of knowledge around Birdstep claim these infrastructure providers are Motorola and Lucent. If that is correct, then Birdstep will be positioned through most major infrastructure provider: Alcatel, Ericsson, Nortel, Cisco, Motorola and Lucent.
First of all, I don`t think the patent covers Birdstep way of roaming. ASNAP is another way of roaming, and you guys are saying it is hardware. In these days you won`t get far with patent claims on ideas. The idea of seamless roaming between various nets is way older than the patent
But if Calypso actually gets the fund and tries a lawsuit against the Alcatel/Birdstep product, they have to go through court in Europe, Asia and america, since the product is launched in alle places. The different courts may come up with different results. European court is totally different than american courts and are not that "patent crazy", I thin the chance for a European court deciding for CLYW for the idea of seamless roaming i slim to none. I don`t know about Asia but I think Asia has a similiar court system with Europe. US is a whole other story, I don`t think CLW will win here either but i`m not sure beacuse you have another way of thinking about law compared to patents and stuff. I was aware of the patent getting a world patent, but that doesn`t mean CLYW automaticly get intelecutal rights in the whole world. In some european magazines this patent is laughed at beacuse we are not that open to claim patent to an idea. I don`t know if you`re getting my point, but there is actual big cultural differencies between european and american court systems (I know it`s different in each state!).
seriously, or are you just kidding? well, anyway i hope american investors can get over this interest fear, it`s really anoying!
Well, what can i say? I`m a writer!
I personally don`t think the patent stand a chance in Europe, but as I have said before I`m not sure but US. The reason i posted the T-mobile/PCTEL/Birdstep links where so you could be aware of it, i didn`t know if you had seen it.
I can`t see that this has anything to do with CLYW, but it is quite interesting for Pctel and Birdstep. As you all probably know, Birdstep is involved in Pctel`s dual-mode-client which enables roaming between cellular and Wifi. Pctel has signed an agreement with T-mobile which will support aditonal use of client for roaming between cellular and Wifi:

Or you can try Carnegie. They`re also american aren`t they. They are trading a lot in Birdstep. I think Citigroup have traded some through Carnegie. So Carnegie, Morgan Stanley and MSI deffinetly trade at OSE and in BIRD! Good luck, if you decide to buy!
You have to be able to trade at OSE (Oslo stock exchange). The company is only listed there. I know that Birdstep is having a roadshow directed at american investors in May. There are som americans trading Birdstep through MSI (Morgan Stanley) and also LBI (lehman brothers) . I don`t have a complete list over the american companies that can trade on OSE, but there several international companies trading at OSE. Since I`m trading through a Norwegian brooker i don`t know exactly what you should do, but LBI and MSI have been trading at OSE and in Birdstep. The ticker code is BIRD, by the way.
today its only listed on OSE, i don`t think that will change during this yeat, but there ar rumors about partnerships with major company like Cisco or Nortel. The company is splitting into three so there will be roam for ownership and a single segment. Cisco and HP has shown interest in the Mobile IP client part befor. But they`re not interested in the IP-zone or database part so maybe they`ll enter as a part after this splitt. And if a major partner enter, then maybe there will be demand for additional listing i US, AMEX or Nasdaq. But as of today there is no plans of several listings. But there are several US companies that trade on OSE!
The company is listed at the norwegian stock market. Ticker code is BIRD.
The company has three main products. Embedded database, this part i cash positive.
Hotspot/Wlan software this is cash positive within next quarter (2 quarter). Contracts here include Vodafone. Vodafone will install WLAN at all their offices around the world with Birdstep software. It is also expected that Vodafone will luach this solution directed at companies (with Birdstep). This sector has gained several contracts during the last year. In UK, US, Austria, South-Africa, Netherlands and Norway. Major income is expected from Vodafone in third quarter.
Mobile IP client. This secures seamless roaming between heterogen nets (Grps/gsm, edge, bluetooth, wifi and soon wimax and more) All comercial contracts in the last year. This part is expected to be cash positive in late 2004. Partners include: Capgemini, Pctel, Alice systems, Intel, Cisco, Hp, Alcatel, Gemplus, Nortel, Ericsson and more. Alcatel and Ericsson will be selling product with Birdstep Mobile IP client from third quarter. You can see the Alcatel press realese on www.alcatel.com . (a week old). The company has 15 million dollars in cash and is expected to be cash positive in second or third quarter of 2004. The company is valued at around 70 million dollars. Alcatel agreement:
The share has tested the support level of 17 (Norwegian kroner) and the share is rising from this level. The share is oversold and is likely to go up to 20 (Norwegian kroner) base on technical datas.
The company is well positioned for the coming demand of seamless roaming between wifi and cellular. They have vital support from existing partnership with majo players mentioned above. They`re well backed by a collbaration with the largest operator in Norway called Telenor. The main advantage for Birdstep is that their IP-zone software and Mobile Ip client can cooperate so Birdstep will bed posistioned both in the actual hotspot and with the user of a terminal (lap top and so on). The Mobile Ip Client is finished for Windows but for upcoming demand from smartphones base on Symbian, Birdstep have opened a office in Uk which will make the Mobile IP client ready for third og fourth quarter of 2004 when smartphones can connect to both cellular and wifi. Birdstep have hired chief of porting in symbian to manage the new office in Uk, so they have good contacts. The Ceo have stated that they expect second half 2004 to be strong, and in particular fourth quarter. 2005 is expected to give solid results and they expect to sell millions of Mobile Ip clients in 2005 to mobile operators who will deliever to end user of smartphone, pda or laptop. Any questions just ask, and remember I`m Norwegian so my english isn`t exactly perfect!
nlight i would recommend Birdstep! They`re presenting results tommorow and will take about recent major contracts with Vodafone (the real company not Mobifon BS), Alcatel, Nortel and Ericsson. The company will gain income from these contracts in second half of 04. And Birdstep is actually mentioned by major companies like Hp, Intel, Capgemeni, Nortel, Ericsson, Alcatel, Gemplus,Vodafone and more, unlike some other companies thaht cliam to have agreements with Vodafone, but actually have a test agreement with a Romanian company.
