Totally agree, Skooby. This is one issue I don't loose sleep over. John
ceez, even if all us I-Hubbers voted against the share increase, it would still pass. The Bunker Hunt's of this co. will vote for it(as I did), and their #'s count. I really think the funding thing is a non-issue. The co. has enough cash for now, and outside contracts may be appearing soon. The further along they can develop their products before partnering, the more $ they can get for them.
Gatt, you're missing the point. We don't care how much "people to people" talk there is about CYGX. I happened to have discovered this company on my own, but many have come here based on other's recommendations. It's contacting the MEDIA that should be avoided. That's the company's job, not ours. Such antics won't make or break the company, but it can piss off media types. Several years age, when e-Digital put out a new MP3 device, so many Raging Bull posters spammed Walter Mossberg at the WSJ to review the gadget that he was reportedly very pissed and never did (to my knowledge) review the device. This is the kind of negative impact I'm referring to.
Nigel, you're right on! I have seen this type of activity damage the reputation of another company I invested in. I don't want my investment in CYGX affected by il-informed and unauthorized pumping.
We went through this whole thing with Skooby a few weeks ago, and apparently he didn't get the message. LET CYGX DO THEIR OWN PR WORK! PUMP THIS STOCK ALL YOU WANT TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS, BUT STAY AWAY FROM THE MEDIA. Malcomb will hire you if he wants your help.
O.T. neo, Thanks for that nice link about Hanuman. Hadn't seen that one before. Not too sure what characteristics of a monkey Rick is referring to that I might exhibit! I chose Hanuman for a name several years back while posting on RB, and brought it over here. I lived in India for 6-7 years, and when CYGX takes off, that's where I plan to return to. My favorite image of Hanuman is his depiction as a perfect servant of God. There are cheap calendars all over India showing Hanuman ripping oper his chest, revealing a small picture of Ram, one of the many Hindu immages of God. The fruits of all of Hanuman's deeds are dedicated to God.
RaptorMan, you had me fooled by your name. Link me to a picture of the Boeing Raptor. Best to all.

This is on their web page under Press. Came out last August
O.T, What do you do with raptors? There's a raptor group near here (Ramona), that watches at a migratory site every January and February. Haven't attended myself.
Several major articles in the San Diego paper yesterday on how hot biotech is, particularly in our area. Idec was mentioned as a company moving from the development stage to the production stage. They're building a $400 mil plant a few miles north. Lots of funding available, but I can see why CYGX wants to hold off partnering until they have proven the value of their approach.
CYGX is not secretive per se, they are just very professional.
Quality, peer reviewed research by leading scientists is not publicised in the popular press or media. Results are made public via scientific meetings and peer reviewed publications. Anything less than this is looked down on by the scientific community, as well as the FDA.
From the RB board, interesting...

Talked to a mangement type today.
Had a Wunder-ful conversataion and have decided that I will vote my proxy as management recommends. I have stated that I was unsure of why they needed so many more authorized shares, the 'blank check' preferreds and to a lesser extent, the class board. This was because in the wrong hands, such power could be used to the detriment of shareholders. While I could be wrong, I now see no reason to believe current management has any intention whatsoever of misusing these powers.
On another note and I believe this has been brought up before in one way or another by someone here of at the company, I get the distinct feeling there will be little in the way of information about the pre-clinical data published before that data is fully collected and analyzed. I also believe it will be other than the company who will be first to publish the data.
There was a comment made about shareholders contacting publications and it was made in a negative tone. Not that such was necessarily bad, but the point made was that writers like to be the ones who discover the story, they don't want it fed to them. Now, you can believe this as true or not, as in pervasive in that industry, but I can see some veracity in the sentiment.
Finally, what Dr. Skolnick said in one of his interviews about clinicals in India was confirmed. That is that CYGX is pursuing the initiation of clinicals in India. It was mentioned that data collected in the states is pretty much 'transferrable' like class credits to another school. That's a crude example, but is in the ballpark.
One last item. One can vote their proxy by phone. If you see a phone number on your proxy, you can vote without sending in the card(s). I was told this is a prompt/ response recorded call.
There were other matters discussed, but I will not even bring up the subjects as I feel a public message board is an inappropriate place to do so.
I will make just one comment about near term share price fluctuations. I believe, and it is only my opinion, that Skooby's prediction of "two weeks" is way too soon for any appreciable upside. Long term...well, that's another story. I maintain my feeling that this stock will continue to be tradable for the next several months.
Kevin

Where'd you come up with the rumor that there was a bio firm knocking on our door with a molecule in hand? Would love to see that happen. Confirmation of the technology, and some pocket change!
Does CYGX have the DNA construct approach entirely covered by their patent(s), or are there avenues still open that competitors can address?
Thalio, explain (again?) how DNA constructs get around the delivery problem. TIA.
Where is everybody?
Thalio, assuming you're lurking out there, or any other bio-teckies, how applicable is CYGX's approach to attacking the AIDS virus? A surgeon here ( who I got into the stock), says AIDS is RNA modulated rather than DNA, but he thought there could be a DNA approach also. I read in the WSJ yesterday about the new and very effective treatment for AIDS that costs $20K per year.
That's a BIG number for a pill.
Why don't you first check with Skolnick if he wants shareholders to alert the media about publications, rather than ask lawyer friends? The point is not whether it's legal, it's whether the company wants your participation in its promotional affairs or not. I've got no problem with you trumping this company to your friends and family. I doubt if your help is desired by CYGX.
As per my prior post on this subject, the paper is out and in the public domain. That can't be undone, and doesn't need to be. My main emphasis was that we should not try to promote the publication to the media to try to "help" the company gain recognition.
No one on this board nor any person not employed by CYGX should take it upon themselves to contact the media in an attempt to publicize this company's scientific or commercial achievements. I've seen this happen with other OTCBB companies, resulting in angering management and antagonizing the media outlet. Distributing a copyrighted scientific paper before it has even been published in a print journal could conceivably jeopardize it's eventual publication. CYGX is doing a great job publicizing it's work, and does not need the help of uninformed outsiders.
Rick, something I've been wondering for some time now...
Everyone is familiar with China's record for honoring international patents and copyrights. It sucks. Just last week I saw a report on the evening news that the Chinese are now producing knock-off cars, including carbon copies of Mercedes-Benz, Toyotas, and Hondas, with no royalties paid to the original designer/producer. What's to stop them from stealing CYGX's patented products? I'm sure they have the bio-engineering talent to do so. Do you or anyone else have any knowledge of successful sales of patented drug products by any of the larger pharmaceutical companies, where profits have actually been repatriated? Thalio, you out there? Any comments on this issue?
As per Skooby, I would recommend a yes vote on all issues. My two proxies were mailed yesterday.
Sounds interesting. Why don't you write it up on the weekend when things are slow?
Agree with all the above. Wife and I are planning a trip to your area this September. Maybe we can get together if we get to Dublin. Also considering Scotland, where my mother's side comes from. Wife, ne Malahy, of course prefers the Emerald Isle. John
I don't think share price is climbing due to leaks. The price is going up for at least 6 reasons:
We're approaching the annual SHM, and investors are hoping for some major news before or during the meeting.
No more end of year tax loss selling.
Recent public announcements by the company are optimistic.
MM's got their run-down to load up, and are now letting the price run.
Biotechs in general are heating up.
TA is self-fulfilling, and the recent shart is quite nice.
Is anyone else bothered by these flashing ads that have appeared on the actual posts over the past several weeks? Maybe they've been there longer, but they're getting very aggravating. Am I the only one who doesn't like them? Any suggestions on stopping them? Mass e-mails to I-Hub? E-mails directly to the advertisers? Suggestions?
Chip, from a TA standpoint, when we break through the recent high, what's the next stopping point? TIA.
Happy and healthy New Years to all!
John
Response to e-mail sent yesterday:
Dear Mr. Schneider: Thank you for your interest and suggestions.
Actually we have been examining anthrax, both dermal and pulmonary, for
some time. We wrote a proposal to several government agencies, but they
showed no interest. We will take up pursuit of anthrax after getting
some preliminary data on aerosol delivery of our plasmid DNA. Best
wishes, Malcolm Skolnick

Subject: Press Release of 12/29/03
Sirs:
Congratulations on your announcement today re. your latest patent
application.
I am continually impressed with the skill and professionalism of your
business and scientific conduct.
Today's press release got me thinking of how advantageous it would be if
you
could develop an anti-sense aerosol specific to anthrax ( and other
pathogens for that matter), that could be carried by our military and
other
possible targets, that could be inhaled immediately after a suspected
exposure. Your work in this area could potentially save many lives.
Sincerely,
John E Schndeider RN
Shareholder
Rick, Thanks for your kind and complimentary response to my prior post. I always feel reluctant to make suggestions to a person or company where the principals are so much more informed than I am, but I guess an e-mail to them would do no harm. In thinking about anthrax, I'm not even sure if the respiratory system is the only route for infecting the host.
Does it also attack through the skin, as does mustard gas? If so, then an inhaler would be of little use. Thanks again.
John
I admire the company for releasing this news during what is usually a slow news week. Shows they're not trying to pump the share price by selectively releasing news. The anti-bioterrorism application is a new angle to me. Anyone have thoughts on how this might play out?
I presume they're talking about antidotes to biologic agents such as anthrax. I wonder though if an inhalant could be developed for our troops that could be used prior to a suspected biologic attack. If there is governmental interest, it might mean some fairly quick up-front money for development.
Homeland Security seems to have a lot of loose funds that they can dole out quickly.
Skooby, You raise several issues in your response. First, I don't want this stock to skyrocket. From $.60 to $50 in one year is almost a 100 bagger. Have you ever been in a stock with that kind of pps inrease? I have. EDIG, which I bought at $.21 and saw it hit $24.50 10 months later. Then it crashed and never recovered. I want this stock to appreciate with support under it. Any stock that gets overheated brings out the wost types, bashers, pumpers, and shorts.
As for the cancer treatments, I don't know of any animal testing done to date, or were you referring to the herpes animal trials? I've been in health care for 28 years, 25 at a research afiliated institution. Knocking down some cancer cells in a lab dish is a lot different that doing it in a human being. No one knows the possible side effects of intracellular tinkering, and I'm sure the FDA is going to take a very thorough look at anything this radically different from current therapeutic approaches. Holding back a new drug from market and allowing more cancer victims to die is a lot less politically damaging to the FDA than is releasing a new treatment, only to find it has some unforseen side effect years later. Remember thalidomide?
And unless I hear differently from Thalio, I don't think the delivery issue is solved by a long shot. Have you ever seen cellulitis or sepsis? They are not conditions you can rub a salve or spray a substance onto and make them disappear. IV delivery is essential, and I know CYGX is working on this, but success is anything but guaranteed. Even if their cell expression only works topically, I think this company will be very successful. I e-mailed them a week age and asked if they had considered looking at pulmonary tuberculosis, which I think would be an ideal application of the technology. I'll let the board know if I hear back. John
According to the NASDAQ webb page, the bid must be above $5 for 90 days, so I assume it is 90 trading days.
Skooby, We have to have a minimum bid price of $5 for 90 consecutive days to apply for NASDAQ listing. To be "well off the OTCBB by mid next year" means we have to hit and maintain
$5 in the next month or two. This is a pipe dream. In just a few days you will have missed your year-end call of $3 to $5 pps by at least a factor of 5. Doesn't that give you pause
to temper your prognostications? We're all enthusiastic about this company, but such outrageous predictions do not lend credit to the overall quality of this board.
I consulted the Oracle of Omaha, and he said one's in Frankfurt, and the other's in Berlin. Incredible.
PS Peach...What are you giving to the winner?
catdog, new alias today. Are you the former dogdog we had here last month, warning us of the perils of the biotech sector? See post 3547, et al.
Sounds like a fun game, Peach. I'm putting my guess in at July 28, 04. I presume you're talking about closing price, not intra-day. I've already told my wife I'm retiring when we're solidly above $10.
Did everyone notice the 1.3 billion acquisition of Esperion by Pfizer today? The purchase price was considered "negligable" for PFE as an outlay. Just mentioning it as an example of the prices these big pharm companies are willing to pay for a company with a good pipeline. 1.3 bil thrown our way = $13/share, and we all believe we're worth much more.
On another topic, I've been thinking that the non pharmaceutical application of gene silencing could be as big if not bigger than the medical stuff. Since the target cellular process is so specific, it seems we could develop products for the ag. industry that would target a specific insect pest, rather than everything that crawls, with no danger to people, animals, or from run-off. Likewise, a specific fungus or other crop killer could also be targeted. Makes your head spin just contemplating.
THALIO, Have you ever discussed TB with Dr Chen? It would seem to be a likely target for the silencing treatment since it is still rampant in many areas and is resistant to many of the current therapies. Furthermore, the pulmonary form of TB would seemingly be approachable with an aerosole application.
TIA.
I'm not at all in a hurry for funding news. The co. has indicated in various ways that it is not a problem. The longer CYGX can go without outside funding, the more they can get for the products in their pipeline. As in today's press release, they seem to be able to line up research agreements as needed for their various therapeutics, and this is due to the status and quality of the company's scientists and business leaders.
Also, re today's PR, any speculation from our bio people as to the method of delivery for a sepsis supressant?
I think the 80K is rather pathetic, but there must be more to the deal than meets the eye. First, as previously discussed, the principals hopefully have some very strong credentials and connections in India. I lived there for 6 years and like most 3rd world countries, its not what you know, but WHO you know over there. Second, we don't know the return on gross that CYGX gets in the deal with Phanuel. Hopefully its very rich.
Third, the people behind Phanuel are not dumb either. They're not going to put even 80K, and whatever they put up for China,
into a company they think isn't funded adequately to get a product as far as phase 1.
