Excellent post – you have encapsulated why many of us are here.
This bozo, Cramer, is just a shill for Biogen and big pharma – Anavex (AVXL) actually has a drug, A2-73, that is safe and has had good results for Alzheimer, Parkinson and other CNS diseases. Phase-3 underway.
The big problem is the crony capitalism of big-government Insurance companies:
One of the worst aspect of the disgraceful history of the woefully misnamed Affordable Care Act - aka Obamacare - is the zealous backing of this monstrosity by huge insurance companies. Not small insurance companies. Few of these small companies still exist, they’ve been murdered by big-government medicine programs.
Small insurance companies can’t afford all the crushing costs of big-government medicine - so they die - which is good for huge insurance companies - less competition for them.
Also good for big-government Insurance is a law, called Obamacare, mandating everyone in the nation purchase their products.
And big-government Insurance knew this bogus law was awful and would make their products MUCH more expensive, which has been Bad news for We the People and great news for them.
On average, Obamacare has doubled premiums and tripled deductibles for those subjected to its insanity.
It gets better for big-government Insurance. Government hands them huge ongoing boat-loads of cash to the tune of about $1 trillion in premium subsidies.
And from where does this windfall come – just add it to the already outrageous national debt – simple - easy.
The leaky Big-government Obamacare medicine boat is sinking folks. Let’er sink. Maybe companies like Anavex can lead us into a new day in which medicine in for the people.
For over a year after ‘right to try’ was signed into law by President Trump, the FDA has stopped patients from getting treatment under this new law.
I’m wondering if Mr Trump will have any discussions with Australia PM Scott Morrison about the ongoing trials of a little-known American company, Anavex, doing their Phase 2/3 study in Australia, as opposed to the US, because of the choke-hold that the tyrannical bureaucracy has on medicine in this country.
I have found that in business, as well as in other areas, it’s not so much what you know, as who you know, and having the right connections. It appears at this juncture that Harald Hampel is the most promising connection to help this small, struggling company to move forward with successful manufacture, marketing and distribution of A2-73 and future products.
The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) rule-making practices are responsible for 1,860 unconstitutional rules - 98 percent of its regulations since 2001 are unconstitutional.
This rogue government agency does not work for the American people in any way, shape, or form.
https://pacificlegal.org/1860unconstitutionalrules/
… and a thorough gutting of this 4th branch of government - the UN-elected bureaucracy that has the real power in this country and is completely UN-accountable to the people.
That’s right – the DC sewer runs deep and the FDA is part of that filthy sewage system.
The president needs to start the dunging-out of these detrimental federal agencies.
Eisai Corporate Objective:
A human health care company capable of making a meaningful contribution under any health care system while observing the highest legal and ethical standards in business activities.
Looks like Eisai brings world-wide manufacturing, distribution & marketing capabilities to the party. They appear to have what it takes to get the ball rolling on A2-73, in a very big way.
Do you think that FDA bureaucrats understand or even care that for Fiscal Year 2018, of the $4.5 trillion spent, nearly HALF went to Social Security and Medicare, or that the Social Security and Medicare trust funds are set to run out of money within the next 15 years.
The FDA should concentrate on expediting new therapies that make (American) people better in a cost-efficient manner.
But, I guess we can’t expect self-serving bureaucrats to understand dollars and (common) sense.
Anavex must be getting closer to the target now, as we seem to taking more flak from those attempting to shoot A2-73 down – luckily their aim hasn’t be to good and THEIR shots have been way off target.
There’s a real problem in this country, in that there are far too many people who seem to feel the need for some corrupted government agency to tell them what or what not to do.
And as has been pointed out, ad nauseam, the FDA is not up to the supreme-task of lording over medicine in this country.
Does anyone watch these watchers?
Obamacare was the last expansion of government’s involvement into the health care sector. The results have been disastrous on many fronts.
The DC politicians have thoroughly screwed up private health care - with Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, the Department of Defense’s TRICARE and TRICARE for Life, the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), the Indian Health Service (IHS) program and Obamacare.
You bet, it’s too easy to run to the doctor for every little hang-nail when there are zero co-pays and virtually no out-of-pocket patient expenses. Beware the government-medical complex.
Sorry to hear about these health issues, but it sounds like you’re doing what is necessary, as much as you can, to solve these problems on your own and not allowing a big-mommy-government to ‘solve’ them for you.
You’re on the right track, but I would further argue that what is needed is more “free” market competition between states by health-care insurers and to reduce the negative impact of big-government centralized control.
Let the market shake out the bad providers and rid us of the corrupt cronyism we are now seeing.
In other words, a type of A2-73 lasting afterglow effect.
Do your statistics take into consideration that there are many women, from outside this country, who come into this country to have their babies – further burdening the government-subsidized medical system in the US. Their individual health may not be very good in the first place.
If A2-73 is adopted first in countries outside the US, please look no further than your friendly big-government FDA bureaucrat to lay the blame.
They do live longer in many of these socialized medicine countries - but it's not because they get superior health care - it's because fewer of them are fat, fewer crash cars, fewer drug overdoses and less gun violence. Take out these factors and the difference in life expectancy disappears completely.
Government-run socialized medicine systems try to save some funds by freeloading off American innovation. American drug companies, funded by American customers, fund most of the world's research and development of pharmaceuticals. New drugs and devices are expensive and these government-run systems oftentimes don’t have the funds to pay for it.
Single-payer systems also try to save money by rationing care – however, it’s not optimal to let government bureaucrats decide who gets care and who does not.
Currently, Government and government-subsidized insurance companies in the US spend most of our health care dollars – government is the biggest driver of medical costs - to want more government-run health care is pure insanity. If you really want to improve things, you should try letting the free-market function properly.
If the independent person decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it – trying not to burden others for his care.
If the government-dependent person decides she needs health care, she demands that the rest of us pay for it, irrespective of the costs and the burden on others.
Bezos is the King of living off the public dole – he makes huge profits off the poor American taxpayer – you may see daddy Trump take this rich boy, Bezos, to task for his arrogance and greed.
The graphs you present don’t show the whole picture and are probably skewed to show socialized medicine in a more favorable light.
In 1965 the US government entered the medical market with Medicare and Medicaid, which was a big bonanza for health providers and costs soared – your graph also seems to show a degradation after that point in time. Also, looks like a drop in life expectancy as costs climbed, which occurred about the same time Obama care kicked in - as planned by the socialists.
The cost of health-care for illegal aliens in this country accounts for many $Billions. And, how many enter the US for critical care that they can’t get with their own socialized systems. Also, the cost of litigation and malpractice insurance for physicians has driven up costs dramatically.
Again, health-care needs to be reformed in this country, but big-government socialized medicine isn’t the answer. People need to be held responsible for their own care, not big-government, in order to hold down costs.
What happens when people are handed “free” medical care is that the price-tag goes through the roof - someone must eventually pay the bill, which will be UN-affordable (many $Trillions) – government involvement in health care (as with everything) is the biggest factor in driving up health care costs - to want more government involvement is pure insanity.
Increased market competition and getting government out of health care is what will bring down costs, making it more fair and affordable for more people – people must responsible for their own care, not UN-accountable, big-government bureaucrats.
If A2-73 is adopted in other countries first, look no further than your friendly big-government FDA bureaucrat to lay the blame.
Let's give this another shot:
The huge problem is that “single payer” big-government socialized medicine is economically not feasible and would lead to shortages and rationing of medical services, which negatively affects people’s lives and well-being.
The US government already runs three “single payer” systems — Medicare, the Veterans Health Administration, and the Indian Health Service — each of which is a mess - noted for fraud, waste, and corruption. Why would we want to turn over all of American medicine to those who have already demonstrated themselves incompetent in running any part of a health care system?
Those who don't follow economics should understand that this nation is sitting on about $22 Trillion in actual debt, with another $200+ Trillion in unfunded liabilities – we’re flat busted and this “single payer” nightmare would bury us even deeper in debt, which would be an long-term disaster for all.
A far better, more workable and far cheaper alternative would be to reform the economics of the present system and unleash the power of free market competition, thereby driving down costs – that will be the solution.
Nicely done – good comprehensive information on your post.
OK, understand – business and capitalism seem to get a really (unfair) bad rap by some, especially those who operate in the government-academic arena. There’s plenty of bad to go around in both worlds, as we’ve seen.
Academic – as being not of practical relevance, only of theoretical, hypothetical interest.
This company is not an academic institution, but a for-profit-driven-company and you should understand, in the interest of “fairness”, that it will be profit driven companies, such as Anavex, that will provide the innovations and the solutions that work in the Real World, as apposed to some impractical, theoretical academic study.
The profit motive is the driving force used to move this venture forward – I’ve invested quite heavily in this profit driven company, as many have – profit is not necessarily a bad thing.
You know who Savage says is mentally disordered, A2-73 just might provide a cure for that, along with the hysteria that they generate – who knows.
Excellent point – how many depressed and/or delusional bureaucrats could benefit from A2-73 – maybe FDA bureaucrats should be required to use it as part of their daily regimen.
It ain’t easy being a CEO of a small struggling business startup developing a new product. I see Missling as an scientist and businessman with an honest vision to get his potentially live-saving products to market.
However, there are a thousand and one reasons for his venture to fail – he must perform and do everything in his power and capabilities close to perfection.
His is not an easy task, especially when having to deal with these Over-Controlling government bureaucrats, whose task it is to stand in the way of any sort of real progress and innovation, which is the bane of their socialist nature and mindset.
You are asking the serious questions that every Long on this board should be asking.
The massive, gluttonous administrative state, including the FDA, is no longer accountable to the people for whom they are supposed to serve.
The biggest threat to this company is the collusion between the FDA and Big Pharma companies that make billions by keeping new life-saving technologies at bay.
The only solution is to reduce these fat, unaccountable bureaucracy’s power/control by massively cutting their funding and gutting their self-serving regulations.
The lesson here is to not let these counter productive government agencies gain this degree of power and control over us in the first place!
Yep, these feckless politicians and bureaucrats cannot be relied upon to work in the American people’s best interests.
As we’ve seen, small under-the-radar companies, like Anavex, are simply ignored because they don’t have the money and power to overcome huge bureaucratic road blocks.
The DC Swamp is too busy with their whacked-out concerns over this “Russia Collusion” Insanity - actually doing something positive/worth-while FOR the American people is NOT on their radar screen.
And, the propagandist-media is too busy spewing mis-information and outright lies to focus in on real stories that affect real people – it’s not in the propagandist-media’s interest to do real stories on real companies, with real products, that solve real problems for real people.
TGD seems to understand this counter-productive bureaucratic mentality, which is obviously why he has chosen the lesser of bureaucratic-evils by choosing Australia to conduct these studies. A good business man does what he must in order to skirt asinine bureaucratic red-tape and reduce UN-necessary costs.
The president signed the "Right To Try Act" in May 2018, which also seems to be buried down deep, somewhere in the FDA cesspool – high time for the peasants to breakout the torches and pitchforks and storm the Bastille.
Your points are well taken – I’m also sure that there is much going on behind the curtain that we are not privy to - the PPS spring has been compressed way too tight for way too long.
I also believe (and Missling has alluded to this) that dealing with big-government bureaucracy has cost the company a great deal of time – I think we could/should be much further down the trial-path at this point in time.
Dr Missling and many others in the know have stated that the cost of bringing new medicines to market has gone from several 10’s of $millions to many $billions in the past several years – and the reason is because of draconian, bureaucratic, FDA rules/regulations. Because of this, many small innovative new companies don’t have much of a prayer in getting their life-saving medicines to market.
Time = $Money$
Why is “Right to Try” not even on the radar screen?
Many of you who continually yammer about Anavex’s ineffective leadership would be much better served to direct your wrath at the cause of this long, grueling holding pattern - Start by hammering on your elected representatives about the FDA’s lack of efficacy.
