They do live longer in many of these socialized medicine countries - but it's not because they get superior health care - it's because fewer of them are fat, fewer crash cars, fewer drug overdoses and less gun violence. Take out these factors and the difference in life expectancy disappears completely.

Government-run socialized medicine systems try to save some funds by freeloading off American innovation. American drug companies, funded by American customers, fund most of the world's research and development of pharmaceuticals. New drugs and devices are expensive and these government-run systems oftentimes don’t have the funds to pay for it.

Single-payer systems also try to save money by rationing care – however, it’s not optimal to let government bureaucrats decide who gets care and who does not.

Currently, Government and government-subsidized insurance companies in the US spend most of our health care dollars – government is the biggest driver of medical costs - to want more government-run health care is pure insanity. If you really want to improve things, you should try letting the free-market function properly.

If the independent person decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it – trying not to burden others for his care.

If the government-dependent person decides she needs health care, she demands that the rest of us pay for it, irrespective of the costs and the burden on others.
