OTC: You seem to be hung up on the 130K troops in IRAQ being the only avenue for success. The world is filled with those that wish us harm. Terrorism has it's roots all over the world. Focusing only on IRAQ is narrow minded and the "Deer caught in the headlights" leader of the free world is confused and unable to parse the data presented to him.
When the *** hits the fan, the headlines might be "US disaster in need of thousands of US Troops to help calm and restore order, Alas they are not here"
I hope it does not happen. I hope I am wrong. I hope IRAQ turns out OK and you and BUSH & Company bring Democracy to the Middle East. I hope I don't have to meet parents of dead soldiers who have that lost look like the folks I knew who lost sons in Vietnam.
I will gladly say (when the time comes) OTC you were right.
Until then, we disagree!!!
mikeo56: In my neighborhood in Portland houses are still selling quickly if priced right. With the recent shift of Intel and other tech companies, sending jobs here from California, the market still seems to be going strong.
When I lived in San Francisco in the early 90's, the housing market tanked, but never went low enough for a profitable flip after you factored in Brokers commissions. I held the property for 9 years and did ok.
My wild guess is that if California prices drop substantially, it would be a long time coming back. Not sure that will happen.
Glad to be in Oregon, less $$$, less traffic, friendlier people. Not as stressed out.
Any help on this situation would be appreciated: I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 laptop. Running Win 2000 Pro with very good stability. Speed is fine for my needs. HOWEVER the boot up time is crazy. From a cold boot it is sometimes 10 minutes.
My sons new XP Dell boots up in under a minute. Would it be worth upgrading to XP PRO at this point on a 4+ year old laptop or am I better off getting something newer with XP.
Is there anything amiss with a 10 minute boot up? Or is that normal.
TIA
len: MAJR: If he had a decent broker, he could open 4 new accounts and journal 999 shares into each account, per a LOA. Beat them at their own game.
btw- RE: Brinker, he sure is not waiting on any chart formations. He is not a TA kinda guy.
OTC: I think that measured isolationism put in place to serve a political or economic end is useful. I don't think that closing the USA to the rest of the world makes sense. Buchanon is a smart guy, I disagree with most of his thoughts, although I find him persuasive.
I think that if we isolated ourselves from the middle east and warned them and the rest of the world that terrorism in our country eminating from the middle east would be met with severe and brutual military punishment, we would then hold an edge. I am liberal in some regards and the most hawkish guy you could meet in others. After warning the world and our own citizens to stay out of dangerous areas, I would feel no remorse at bombing the crap out of them. We don't do it now becuase of ..... let me think...... OIL.
If I had been running the show 9/11, I would have most likely left the kid's reading time in Florida in about 30 seconds and ordered some bombs to start falling. Not very rational, but that's a good reason why I am not running the show. The fact that this administration did not know where to bomb that fast speaks volumes for the incompetance of Bush & Clinton, CIA and all other intelligence services.
We American's have been so used to watching movies and TV shows showing how great we are in the spy game when in fact we don't really know all that much.
Beating down Iraq is only a distraction. The terrorist are doing the planning and plotting all over the world. And we have 130,000 men and women risking their lives, and they will be in the wrong place at the wrong time when the next terrorist strike hits us.
Leaving the middle east takes away the excuse that Bin Laden and others use to hate us. They will have to cook up some other idea's.
We really don't disagree on the final results, just the method to getting at it. I prefer to think that my son will not be needed 10 years from now to fight in some war with no purpose.

Yeah, come on all of you, big strong men,
Uncle Sam needs your help again.
He's got himself in a terrible jam
Way down yonder in Vietnam
So put down your books and pick up a gun,
We're gonna have a whole lotta fun.
And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam;
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.
Well, come on generals, let's move fast;
Your big chance has come at last.
Gotta go out and get those reds —
The only good commie is the one who's dead
And you know that peace can only be won
When we've blown 'em all to kingdom come.
And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam;
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.
Huh!
Well, come on Wall Street, don't move slow,
Why man, this is war au-go-go.
There's plenty good money to be made
By supplying the Army with the tools of the trade,
Just hope and pray that if they drop the bomb,
They drop it on the Viet Cong.
And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam.
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.
Well, come on mothers throughout the land,
Pack your boys off to Vietnam.
Come on fathers, don't hesitate,
Send 'em off before it's too late.
Be the first one on your block
To have your boy come home in a box.
And it's one, two, three
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam.
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

"create and promote an environment in which Radical Islam is defeated by its own people"
don't you think that our involvement in the Middle East has helped foster this radical sect? we have been screwing around in the Middle East for a long time; for OIL.
when the middle easterner's decide that they want to change the way in which they live, let them go for it. seems like we asked for some help from the French to help us liberate the 13 colonies... don't recall that they came here and overthrew the British for us and then hung around for a few years while we sorted things out. seems like we declared independence first and fought second. think i like this plan better, worked pretty well don't you think?
I don't recall quoting Pat Buchanon.
OTC: Use some logic, if we did not need the oil, we would have no need to be in IRAQ. Let the middle east go back 1000 years if they so choose. Let them live the way they want to. Not our problem. Actually a rather conservative republican view, of which I am not. Pat Buchanon would be proud of me. LOL
If you think we should be in IRAQ for humanitarian reason, then we should be in a good portion of Africa for the same reasons.
Big Pharma stocks: I found over the years that I can't,nor do I know anyone who beats the performance of Vanguards Specialized Health Care Fund. The manager is awesome, the entry minimums are high and a penalty is added if you sell before 5 years. Check out his LONG term record. One of the top funds around.

GFCI: Don't know if it is for real. Having known and dealt with enough stock scammers in my day, GFCI fits the bill. It may be a 10 bagger from here, I won't be along for the ride.
Scammers look for companies that are in a raging hot industry and have some oldtimers that have good industry experience. You can always feel like you are getting close to having the financials and all the legit info you need, and amazingly it just never arrives.
If I had a trading account at an OTC firm, I would have been shorting the crap out of this stock.

OUCH... I got burnt on that from a Smart Money recommendation... Learned a painful expensive lesson. OUCH
Jim: No your daughter should not have green hair! But I bet you lose that battle. Was not prepared for a loooong response. I am from a mostly non military family (recent). My brother was in the army during the Vietnam conflict/war, whatever. He was lucky to remain stateside do to his valuable skills in the accounting area. I also had several uncle's in the army.
All that being said, I would never want to tell families who lost children in the war that it was a waste. But to prevent what I consider a misguided war, truth must be told. This administration prevented photo's of the casket's being flown back to America.
Old men sending young men to die is never good. Sometimes it may be right, be never good. Makes me sick to think about it.
If I ran the show, I would be investing those billions from the Iraq war into alternative energy solutions. Problem solved.
Jim_WI, could not make it through the entire document, but I am ready to pack up and move to IRAQ.
not!
as far as I am concerned, a total waste of 2000 young american lives and many thousands more wounded and maimed for life.
Put an order in to buy more today. Maybe I am crazy?
Are SPY & QQQQ acceptable for this board? Good Luck with it!

OT Cramer: What happened to the Cramer Tech Rally? Seems to be heading in the wrong direction Jimbo...
suave/bargains/all others: This anything goes board is great fun and interesting at times. The grade school name calling is bush league (pardon the pun), childish nonsense. Hopefully one or all of you will learn to not respond to the attacks. I assume that you guy's are all adults, start acting like one.
I already have children at home that need direction, my nine year old knows better than to play this game.
Get back to the good clean fun of Bush or Clinton bashing. LOL
Library: Don't know about the rest of you, but I pay a substantial wad of cash in my property taxes to fund the local library. I use it as often as possible and only buy books that I want to keep or when the library does not have them.
I wish more parents would take the kids to the library instead of the video game store.
Zone Alarm: Under Firewall - Trusted Zone Security, do you have it set at high or medium? Medium would be the setting that allows sharing....
just lurking here the past day or so, looks like an interesting board!
10bagging Hank: You did not lose, loose or not win the round, because we are not in a fight. If I had your email address, I would have long ago mentioned the capital-capitol dilemma. As to my screw up, I can only blame my wife, because she made the martini last night. That is the story I am sticking with.
My brother used to slap me silly when I would say "unloosened". LOL
stock peeker: You said "In other words, do the due diligence yourself whenever you are the decision maker."
How exactly would the President of the United States do the due diligence on all the issues?
I am not a fan of GB, but seriously a President needs to do the due diligence on picking his advisors and then pick and choose from what they give him. In spite of a large number of talking heads telling us that GB is an intelligent guy, I think the opposite is true. Maybe he had the capacity for intellectual thinking, but he blew out his brain cells with the substance abuse of his youth.
He has been led in many directions and just signs off on spending whatever is put in front of him.
I can't stand it, I wish he would just QUIT!
I was under the impression that this board was about picking good VM stocks. Their seems to be this preoccupation with picking apart what Lentinman has done with his portfolio and how he has left money on the table. He is a smart guy I don't loose much sleep over how his portfolio is doing or where his next meal is coming from.
Paragrahs would be good.
btw - Capitol is the domed building you see in Washington and most states. Capital is the money that is used to fund companies. Sorry it has been bugging me for some time. Feel free to correct my blunders, I don't take offense!
flemsnopes: The 10K shares does not seem much to me. However we don't really know the number of shares involved. Could be a bad trade that did not get settled, or could be a much larger amount of stock that someone shorted. But since the price has come down you would think they could have covered.
I don't think this is much of an issue. The real problem at this point is all the outstanding warrants & 1.00 stock, including the preferred convertible stock.
Buying this under $1.20 is a "brainer". My 4 year old daughter trades this one like a pro. LOL
jim_wi: OT: can't reply to private mail. you can email me @ dtt@ahm-bizsolutions.com and I can reply. thanks
EOM
OT: Jim_WI - Carbs: I need to drink many martini's to catch up with you. Don't think I can....

From the Regulation SHO:
I don't see where it means much, other than a fail on at least 10,000 shares. Do you see anywhere that it is a substantial number???
Background
As defined in Rule 203(c)(6) of Regulation SHO, a “threshold security” is any equity security of any issuer that is registered under Section 12 of the Exchange Act, or that is required to file reports under Section 15(d) of the Exchange Act (commonly referred to as reporting securities), where, for five consecutive settlement days:
There are aggregate fails to deliver at a registered clearing agency of 10,000 shares or more per security;
The level of fails is equal to at least one-half of one percent of the issuer’s total shares outstanding; and
The security is included on a list published by a self-regulatory organization (SRO).
A security ceases to be a threshold security if it does not exceed the specified level of fails for five consecutive settlement days.
lentinman: in your free time how about searching for how many times "Cramer" is mentioned in a post. it could become a market indicator!
D V D : you can buy a DVD player for $29.95 at my favorite store - Walmart!
LOL
Len: Never been to or even seen a Sonic. None in Oregon as far as I can tell, and they just started coming to West coast of Florida as I was moving away. Does not matter as I don't eat meat anyway. I am with you on the staying close to home, although it is hardly an option.
lentinman: LOL, you call waiting in your car @ Sonic "going out to eat"?
You should have parked your car and gone inside, stop being lazy!

Lawmakers question $192 million deal between Carnival Cruise Lines and FEMA
Miami, Florida - U.S. lawmakers are requesting documents from a $192 million dollar deal that would allow Hurricane Katrina evacuees
to be housed in three luxury cruise liners.
The deal is between the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Carnival Cruise Lines.
Republican Representative Marilyn Musgrave from Colorado plans to order a Congressional investigation into the September second
deal. Democratic Representative Henry Waxman from California is requesting a copy of Carnival's contract and documentation
supporting its cost from.
The Navy's Military Sealift Command negotiated the contract for FEMA. It promises Carnival $192 million dollars for the use of three ships through February. It also agrees to reimburse Carnival $44 million dollars for fuel and other costs.
FEMA could house about 71-hundred people who lost their homes in Katrina on the three ships. But many of them would not be able to afford it. It's costing $20,00 a month to house a family of five.
istockguy: NHRX/W: What I first thought about this company was that they were trying very hard to maintain a price above $8 to grab all the outstanding warrant money. They were not able to do that and I lost interest. Since I started with that stock I gave up buying anything that lacks current "profits". I no longer chase the "if's" "when's" or could "be's"... My only non earners are stocks I had purchased when I was weak (LOL).
If I was to play this one again, giving in to temptation, I would not be buying it at these levels. I could have bought all I wanted to a $1.00 not so long ago.
istockguy : NHRXW: The warrants were issued for $5.00 ex price. Don't remember the date, but you have time. You need to read through the sec filings to make sure they have not changed terms.
good luck, the warrants were just in the $.90 range recently and as I recall I posted about them when they spiked up to $1.60 or so.
