WLSA ~ Wireless Age Communications, Inc. valuation.
Critical Overview.
Some key things to keep in mind:
The acquisition is non-dilutive.
The Company has agreed to acquire the USA Rights and control of Sunbay Port Hope in exchange for seven million five hundred thousand (7,500,000) common shares of Newlook Industries Corp ("Newlook") and approximately $270,000 US in cash and forgiveness of debt.
Note that management also commented on finalizing the cancellation of Newlook's restricted stock in Wireless Age(as per their last release). The resulting issued and outstanding count would be 27,600,000.
We also expect that Wireless Age and Newlook will complete our previously announced restructuring of debt.
A due name change is on management's short list to reflect their pursuits in this sector.
as well as a name change for Wireless Age.
Also keep in mind that Simmonds is emphasizing that this is one among several projects Wireless Age is pursuing. They acquire majority interest in Sunbay Port Hope but do not limit themselves to plasma gasification opportunities in Canada, let alone the province of Ontario. Notice the frequent mention of United States rights ...
Cream of the crop: The Port Hope project alone should provide Wireless Age with over $2M in net income. This figure may be used to derive EPS, a crucial fundamental measurement. $2,000,000 in net income/27,600,000 issued and outstanding = $0.0724 EPS.
Diversified Utilities has an average P/E ratio of 9.5
http://biz.yahoo.com/p/913conameu.html
Therefore $0.0724 EPS x 9.5 P/E = $0.69 valuation based solely on the Sunbay Port Hope project.
Remember: Wireless Age has voiced intent in announcing various other United States based projects as well. Additional net income leads to additional earnings per share (EPS), which leads to a higher valuation.

Wireless Age in Discussions on Loan Repayment.
TORONTO, ONTARIO, Jul 13, 2009 (Marketwire via COMTEX) -- Wireless Age Communications, Inc. ("Wireless Age")(PINK SHEETS:WLSA) and its controlling shareholder Newlook Industries Corp. ("Newlook")(TSX VENTURE:NLI) announced today they are in discussions with respect to the terms and conditions of debt repayment between the two parties.
Pursuant to the discussions, Newlook, subject to regulatory approval, will transfer approximately 30 million common shares of Wireless Age and 2 million common shares of Newlook to Wireless Age in exchange for debt reduction. Such shares of Wireless Age will be returned to treasury.
In a related transaction, Newlook has agreed to transfer all of the issued and outstanding common shares of its wholly-owned subsidiary Grandvue Inc. ("Grandvue") and its interest in an 18% secured convertible promissory note issued by Function Mobile Inc. to Gamecorp Ltd. ("Gamecorp")(CNSX:GGG), a related party, in exchange for 2 million Newlook common shares held by Gamecorp. Gamecorp is a related party due to its ownership of approximately 18% of Newlook and certain common officers and directors. Grandvue has provided equipment lease financing to IAG Peru S.A.C., a related party to Newlook, Gamecorp and Wireless Age, by virtue of common officers and directors with its parent InterAmerican Gaming, Inc. (OTCBB:IAGM).
The terms and conditions of the debt reduction have not been finalized at this time; however the final terms and conditions will have to be approved by disinterested directors of Newlook and Wireless Age. The transaction is also subject to regulatory approval and the approval of the full Newlook and Wireless Age boards of directors.
John G. Simmonds, CEO of Wireless Age stated; "We believe it is in the best interests of all concerned to sever the ownership of Wireless Age by Newlook. Newlook will return to the Company all remaining shares in Wireless Age and Wireless Age will cancel the returned shares thereby reducing the issued and outstanding from approximately 57.6 million to approximately 27.6 million. With the two million Newlook shares obtained in this transaction, Wireless Age will own approximately 16% of Newlook. Following this proposed transaction there will likely remain a residual debt balance that we hope to resolve on a mutually satisfactory basis shortly."

Seafarer Exploration, Inc. is a development stage company with the principal business objective to recover historical marine artifacts and cargo. Seafarer Exploration, Inc. is primarily focused on efforts to locate and recover artifacts and cargo from what is believed to be a sunken Spanish galleon off the coast of Juno Beach, Florida. Management believes that if artifacts and cargo are recovered, a portion of the recovered items will be in the form of treasure such as dated coins, gold, silver, and emeralds.
acquire the exclusive rights to develop Sunbay plasma gasification opportunities in the United States of America (the "USA Rights")
This is vital for the development of projects such as the gasification plants proposed in the state of Connecticut. It could be the difference between an industry leader and an industry participant. Remember that thermal treatment of waste in North America is less than 5% of the total produced.
Japan is the world leader with thermal treatment of waste reaching 95%.
Europe follows with 50% thermal treatment.
North America lags significantly with less than 5%, hence there is a large unmet demand.

Landfills and incineration are not solutions. Recycling programs are not as effective & efficient as plasma gasification. This technology is the only universal solution to crisis waste management issues and renewable energy alternatives.
Discovery Channel features energy from waste plasma gasification technology. This is an educational video that reviews the benefit of this intelligent and environmentally conscious solution. Link to video: http://www.timelesswealth.net/video2.html

Sun Energy Group, LLC: Oxley is credited with co-founding this renewable energy company with D’Juan Hernandez, a former executive of NRG Energy, Inc., the nation’s leading Independent Power Producer. The ties here are unbelievable. Exelon Corp. on Tuesday delivered on its promise to scrap its hostile $9 billion stock offer to buy NRG Energy after shareholders at the smaller firm rejected its slate of directors.

The Lousiana Gasification facility listed under the presentation will be built under plasma gasification technology, that is, waste to energy. Obviously Oxley is no stranger having many years experience with this technology.
Review their partners in this project. This plant's capacity is at least 6X as large as the proposed Port Hope waste to energy plant:
Location Metro New Orleans Region, Louisiana (Specific Sites Under Review) System Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) Net Capacity 138 Megawatts (MW) Annual Output 1.1 Million Megawatt Hours (MWh) Feedstock Input 2500 Tons per Day; 821,000 Tons per Year If Sunbay Port Hope is tied to Wireless Age through Oxley, and Jordan Oxley also happens to be involved in this Louisiana deal, there is no reason as to why Oxley and Simmonds will not be cooperation on numerous other projects in the United States, i.e. Connecticut (as Simmonds had remarked).

Nice move there, patience may have had payd off for some investors imho.
Any feelings that new investors or financial institutions in the surrounding area may have a growing interest in WLSA?
There is a growing interest towards the technology worldwide. As Wireless Age Communications, Inc. acquires a controlling stake in Sunbay Port Hope, I am sure several investors will pursue this publicly traded vehicle. Remember: Wireless Age & Sunbay are negotiating major projects in the state of Connecticut as well as other geographical locations across the United States.
Tom Konrad, Ph.D., CFA, comments on the emerging renewable energy sector. The key points: the sector is a long-term universal solution to several growing issues. There are driving forces that continue to make renewable energy attractive. The biggest issues: energy efficiency & cost.
Remember that with plasma gasification technology, energy efficiency is a built-in feature and the cost to it is relatively low, especially compared to technologies such as solar energy. Konrad calls solar energy hyped.
The idea of the article is to compare the internet boom to potential "hyping" of renewable energy. Investors have the upper hand with this longer-term idea, which Konrad explains must actually have substance in order to work. Also keep in mind that as the article investigates several common and emerging technologies, plasma gasification is the only universal solution to all of the listed issues AND the waste management crisis in North America.
Will the Clean Energy Economy Become the Next Internet?
Hard Assets Investor July 27, 2009
By Lara Crigger
From biofuels to peak oil, from wind power to solar "picks and shovels," we've been talking quite a bit about alternative and renewable energy on Hard Assets Investor lately. That's why we decided to get the lowdown on the latest developments in clean energy from Alt Energy Stocks' Tom Konrad, Ph.D., CFA.
As a writer, consultant and financial analyst, Tom Konrad is one of the investment community's best-known experts in renewable energy and energy efficiency. He's a prolific writer, both for Alt Energy Stocks and elsewhere, and armed with a Ph.D. in mathematics, Konrad brings his signature academic perspective to the often hype-filled alt-energy space.
Recently, Hard Assets Investor associate editor Lara Crigger spoke with Konrad about clean energy, including the similarities between clean tech and the Internet, Exxon's leap into biofuels, and the smart- grid free lunch.
Lara Crigger, associate editor, HardAssetsInvestor.com (Crigger): Last week, BusinessWeek discussed whether the clean-energy economy could become the "next Internet." What's your take?
Tom Konrad, financial analyst, Alt Energy Stocks (Konrad): I think the resemblance to the Internet is somewhat superficial. I mean, certainly clean energy will dominate investment headlines for quite awhile. But clean tech investment tends to be extremely capital intensive. Internet investment is very capital-light; you can start up a company in a garage. You just can't do that with clean tech.
So I think the properties of the clean energy boom are going to be much different. It will be slower. The real drivers of clean tech are very long-term economic drivers, whereas the driver of the Internet was technology, a cheaper way to do things.
But clean energy, generally speaking, is driven by several things: rising fossil fuel prices, climate change and its political reactions, and the realization that as fossil fuel prices rise, clean energy will someday be a cheaper way to do things. Because there are several drivers, the boom should be longer and more sustained.
Crigger: So we won't see a few wild years followed by a huge bubble burst, like with Internet.
Konrad: I don't think so. Certainly, we could see another stock price burst. In the recent bust, clean tech stocks took a bigger hit than others, mainly because they have high betas. Investor attitudes come and go, and we'll see busts along the way. But I think the proportion of speculation and investor enthusiasm compared to reality was higher for the Internet than it is for clean energy, so the relative volatility will be lower.
At the same time, there's a lot of hype. In fact, there may be more of that in clean tech, because it's hard to put together something real.
Crigger: Speaking of hype, are there certain sectors or technologies that investors should be wary of?
Konrad: They should be wary of anything that's really exciting. Personally, I tend to push the least exciting ones, like energy efficiency. Only maybe 1% of the companies in energy efficiency are hype, because it's just so boring.
If you were a hypemonger, you'd do solar. Solar's got a great story, but everybody knows it. And when everybody knows it, that's when you have to watch out.
I think algae is another one to be wary of, especially now. It's the flavor of the moment, but it's a very immature technology. I wrote an article recently about advanced biofuels, in which I detailed each of the three public algae companies, and they really have no particular distinction or advantage over the private ones. Why should these three out of dozens survive? Why should any of them survive?
Crigger: What about Exxon's recent announcement of a $600 million deal to develop algae biofuel? Will this be the trigger that sets off the algae industry?
Konrad: Well, it's a step along the way. Long term, I have a lot of faith in algae. It's the one biofuel feedstock that has the potential to displace a large fraction of our liquid fuel needs. But we're talking 10 years, most likely, before anything is commercially available. That's beyond the range of a stock market investor.
It's one of these things that, because the story is good, people are all excited about it. But there isn't anything that's going to save us from the drivers of climate change. Peak oil is going to happen. And algae is not going to displace oil, because it's going to be very expensive. Look, there's no free lunch. It's all going to be hard work.
Crigger: Does the price of oil have to rise dramatically before something like algae-derived biofuels can take off?
Konrad: With algae, a lot of it is technology. It's going to be a function of two things. The price of algae will drop, but it's pretty capital intensive, so it's always going to be expensive.
I come back to the energy return on investment, or, how much energy are you putting in to get some out? And for most renewable - wind, solar, etc. - you only get 3 to 5 times as much energy out as you put in. Now historically, with oil, that's been as high as 100. But these days, it's dropping into the single digits. So as those two numbers come to be about the same, then you'll tend to reach price parity too.
Crigger: Why is algae the only biofuel that has a chance to displace oil on a large scale? What about ethanol?
Konrad: Ethanol is limited by corn. There's an upper limit on corn ethanol because there's an upper limit on corn production. We're near it already, and once we hit it, that's it. That's all you're going to get, unless you plant more corn - which we don't have land for. Maybe there are some efficiency gains to be gotten, but the change would be marginal.
But just because it's not a significant portion of your energy doesn't mean it's not a good business. Ethanol is not a solution to the climate problem; it's never going to fix that. But it is a national security help, and a way to deal marginally with peak oil.
If the producers of corn want to sell it that way, then they'll be able to fix their image problem, because then, they'll just be like any other business. They're a chemical business. They're turning biofeedstock into a liquid fuel. It's just another commodity business.
Crigger: You've written quite glowingly about the smart grid sector. Why do you like it so much?
Konrad: I like smart grid because it's a free lunch ...
Crigger: Hey, I thought you said there weren't any free lunches.
Konrad: Yeah, yeah (laughs). But there is a free lunch, and it's energy efficiency. Because there's a free lunch whenever markets are not functioning well, and the electricity market is very dysfunctional.
Someone once described the way we deal with electricity as "going out to a restaurant every day of the month, getting a menu without any prices, and then getting a bill at the end of the month." The smart grid hopes to actually put prices on that menu, and bill you at the time. So if you think about how you'd eat if that were the case, you'd be much more reasonable about what you order, and you'd still be happy with your meal. In fact, you might be happier, since you wouldn't be surprised by a $1,000 bill at the end of the month.
So you would get as much utility out of your electricity as you were before, but there will be a lower cost, because you'll be choosier. There's the free lunch: spending less on energy because we are using our energy more intelligently.
Crigger: So as an investor, what are some smart ways to approach this "smart grid?"
Konrad: It's hard, since it's a very early sector, but I like the more established technologies, like demand response, or working to make the upstream part of our electricity distribution system more efficient. It's less sexy, but it may be something that may pay well for investors.
Crigger: Should investors examine clean energy stocks differently than they would other energy stocks, or even stocks in general?
Konrad: No, I don't think so. But you do have to remember that it's the most exciting sector out there. So there will be more startups just out to collect investors' money, who will never go anywhere. But that's true in all sectors whenever they get hot.
The other thing to remember is that no stock, no company and no technology is going to save the world. And there are a lot of promises of that. But they can't. Energy is just going to be hard work.

Wireless Age in Discussions on Loan Repayment.
TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 13, 2009) - Wireless Age Communications, Inc.

The Ontario Power Authority set up a program that would support the early development of energy from-waste facilities in the province. In Port Hope, Ontario, Sunbay Energy Corp. is proposing a waste to energy facility operating under plasma gasification technology. An alternative to overflowing landfills and hazardous incinerators is long overdue. Under the Kyoto Protocol Canada pledged to lower Green House Gas emissions by 2012.
Renewable energy incentives will spur economic development in the alternative energy industry. Take for instance a $14.1 billion investment in the Ontario electricity system that began in 2005 and will continue through 2013. http://www.powerauthority.on.ca/Page.asp?PageID=924&ContentID=6886
Several newspapers have reported on the behind-the-scenes activity to alternative energy and incentives being established as a result of the Green Energy Act in Ontario.
Green Energy Act Overview.
February 23, 2009
Location: Queen’s Park, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
The Green Energy and Economy Act, 2009: Bill 150
The Hon. George Smitherman, Ontario’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, introduced Bill 150. Bill 150 is intended to fast track a broad range of new renewable generation facilities, to establish a culture of conservation in Ontario, and to facilitate the inclusion of First Nations and Métis communities in the "green energy economy".
The entire GEA may also be seen as a climate change initiative. Through the increased development of renewable energy projects, Ontario’s overall carbon footprint may be reduced over time. This will have implications for the province’s contribution to federal and other emissions reductions targets.
How this applies to Sunbay Energy:
The sweeping changes replace the Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program (RESOP) with a system of feed-in tariffs and power pricing based on project criteria.
It will now be easier for renewable energy projects to move through the approvals process and connect to the provincial electricity grid.
According to Linda Thompson, Mayor of Port Hope, Ontario, home of the Sunbay Port Hope Project:
"Now is the time for the public and private sector to work together to build essential infrastructure and create sustainable employment. The opportunity this opens for world-class energy projects that also protect the environment, like Sunbay Port Hope, could be a huge step forward for the Province."
Mayor Earle Freeborn, Mayor of Chapleau, Ontario, home of the Chapleau Biomass Project:
"These are great projects at any time, but right now we need good news more than ever. Passing the Green Energy Act will support the success of the Chapleau Biomass Project, and that in turn will support the success of our community."
Jordan Oxley, President of Sunbay Energy:
"This is clearly a major boost for renewable energy and the environment. We applaud Premier McGuinty, Minister Smitherman, the Liberal Cabinet and Caucus, and all Members from all parties that support this initiative. The Green Energy Act will motivate developers like Sunbay to build more projects, sooner, and that means a healthier environment and quality jobs."
Key Features of Bill 150:
•Creation of a Renewable Energy Facilitation Office
•Streamlined Approvals Process
•Feed-In Tariff Program
•Expedited Connections for Renewable Power Projects
•Planning Act Exemptions
•Conservation and Demand Management Directives
•Smart Grid
•Generation by Municipal Electric Utilities
•Renewable Energy Cooperatives

The Toronto Star reports that movement away from landfills and incineration and towards thermal treatment of waste, is a long overdue move for a technology with significant potential.
Support for energy from waste is long overdue.
May 26, 2008
TYLER HAMILTON
It largely slipped under the radar, but back in February the government directed the Ontario Power Authority to set up a program that would support the early development of energy from-waste facilities in the province.
Energy Minister Gerry Phillips, in a letter addressed to power authority chief executive Jan Carr, cited the need to test and evaluate new technologies that can turn municipal solid waste into electricity. Already, he pointed out, the government has streamlined the environmental approvals needed to build and operate such demonstration plants.
"The goal of the initiative is to encourage the development of new or improved energy from-waste technologies with improved environmental performance," wrote Phillips, hinting that the power authority should be prepared to pay 10 cents per kilowatt-hour for any demonstration project that falls within the initiative.
It's a long overdue move for a technology with significant potential.
We're not talking incineration here, despite attempts by critics to brand it as such. There's no burning involved.
What the technology does is use intense heat to break down the molecular structure of the waste. Once this is done, bad molecules are removed and the rest is chemically engineered into clean-burning synthetic gas – similar to natural gas. This "gasification" process is not squeaky clean, but it's better than the alternatives it aims to replace, including landfills on the waste side and coal on the energy side.
The government's directive is encouraging, given the fact that several communities in Ontario – including Durham and York Regions, Hamilton, Sault-Ste. Marie and Ottawa – are moving forward with energy-from-waste plans whether the province supports them or not. They've got a garbage crisis, and if new technologies can manage that problem in an economical way and contribute some clean energy to the grid, why not take a look?
Some – though not all – environmentalists are deeply suspicious and skeptical, and this is understandable. The "technologists" have been making claims since the 1980s about how garbage can be turned into energy gold in an environmentally responsible way. Some municipalities bought the sales pitch, and got burned. Many facilities never got built or failed to deliver on promises, and ended up instead at the centre of nasty legal battles.
But there's good reason to believe this time is different:
• The technology has dramatically improved.
• Engineers have become much better at controlling the chemical reactions required to bust up and re-assemble garbage molecules.
• Approaches have become more efficient.
• Attention to emission reductions has become a priority.
• And real-time monitoring of pollutants allows for heightened public scrutiny.
• The fact that General Electric is getting into the energy-from-waste business is, on its own, a telling sign that the technology has matured.
The economic case is also better. Twenty years ago the tipping fee to send garbage to a landfill wasn't breaking the municipal bank. Today, the cost of transporting Toronto's residual waste to Michigan and paying a landfill to take it has ballooned.
If an energy-from-waste facility can collect that tipping fee instead, and sell the power they produce to a province willing to buy it, the argument that these technologies are "too expensive" fades away.
There are still some challenges to overcome. Gasification is much easier when it's done with a single material, such as wood waste or plastic containers, where the molecular structure is predictable and consistent. Municipal solid waste is a bit trickier because of the variety of garbage it contains – after metals are removed from the stream, what's left is a hodgepodge of plastics, papers, fibres, wood waste and in some places food waste.
GE, and startups such as Plasco Energy, Enquest and Ze-Gen are among the many companies out there fine-tuning the approach. Others, such as Enerkem, Coskata and Cleantech Biofuels are taking similar paths but, instead of producing gas, they're producing ethanol for transportation.
Such challenges are why demonstration facilities are so important. Without them, how will we know they work as promised? And if they do, how can they be properly showcased to the cautiously optimistic? "I think there's nothing wrong with trying out new technologies and seeing what's possible," says Michael Angemeer, CEO of local electric utility Veridian Corp.
Angemeer, also vice-chair of the Durham Strategic Energy Alliance, was part of a mission to Europe last June that toured energy-from-waste facilities in Scandinavia and the Netherlands. He walked away impressed with what's possible if proper attention is placed on emissions.
"The trip was eye-opening," he says. "In Europe they don't consider this as waste; they consider this a fuel like any other fuel."
Energy-from-waste facilities aren't a silver bullet. They shouldn't be relied on. They shouldn't replace recycling and other diversion programs that make sense. They shouldn't stop us from demanding laws that forbid unnecessary packaging, or prevent the creation of policies that attack our throwaway culture.
But they have their place in a hierarchy of approaches, and to dismiss their potential could prove a mistake in the face of a growing waste problem and a certain energy crisis. The province, it appears, is wisely beginning to recognize this.

WLSA ~ The Ontario Power Authority set up a program that would support the early development of energy from-waste facilities in the province.

Fewer layoffs expected as recession winds down.
Fewer layoffs expected in July as recession winds down, but firms show little appetite to hire
By Jeannine Aversa, AP Economics Writer
On Friday August 7, 2009, 12:23 am EDT
WASHINGTON (AP) -- First, the good news. Workers probably got slapped with fewer pink slips in July as the worst recession since World War II winds down.
Now, the reality check. A paucity of job openings means nearly 15 million unemployed Americans are still looking for jobs, and their ranks are likely to keep growing into 2010.
Labor Department data due out Friday is expected to show job losses slowing in July to a pace of around 320,000, with unemployment rising to 9.6 percent, up from 9.5 percent the previous month. If the job-loss estimate is on target, it would be a heartening improvement from June's 467,000 job losses -- and the slowest pace for job losses since August 2008.
Slower job losses are anticipated because companies aren't cutting investment and spending as drastically as they had been during the depths of the recession which came in the final quarter of last year and carried over into the first quarter of this year. And, recent barometers have shown some improvements in manufacturing, housing and construction activity.
The government reported last week that the economy shrank at a pace of just 1 percent from April-to-June, the strongest signal yet that the recession may be ending.
Many analysts predict the economy could start growing again in the current July-to-September quarter. And, the Fed recently observed that the economy is finally showing signs of stabilizing in some regions of the country -- especially in parts of the Northeast and Midwest -- bolstering hopes of a broader-based recovery this year.
However, the anticipated slowdown in layoffs won't prevent the unemployment rate from rising for the 10th month in a row and to the highest level in 26 years.
The good news, bad news picture in the labor market suggests that employers are feeling more comfortable about slowing down firings but still aren't ready to ramp up hirings.
Companies won't kick up hiring until they are confident a recovery will have staying power. And, the anticipated recovery is expected to be slow. Exactly how it unfolds will hinge partly on the behavior of consumers, whose spending accounts for the single-largest slice of economic activity.
Given rising unemployment, recession-ravaged investment portfolios, and, in some cases, stagnant or falling wages, they are staying cautious.
Fresh evidence of that came Thursday when major retailers reported sluggish sales for July, raising concern about sales during the back-to-school shopping season.
Among the disappointments were Macy's Inc. and teen retailers Abercrombie & Fitch Co. and Wet Seal Inc. Among the few bright spots was discounter TJX Cos., operator of the T.J. Maxx and Marshalls chains, which reported a sales gain that exceeded Wall Street estimates.
Still, the worst of the job cuts have passed.
The deepest job cuts of the recession came in January, when 741,000 job disappeared, the most in any month since 1949. The economy lost an average of 691,000 jobs each month during the first quarter. That slowed to an average of 436,000 a month in the second quarter. Analysts predict that companies will continue to ax jobs through this year, but they hope that the pace of those reductions will ebb.
Even if that happens, the unemployment rate is likely to top 10 percent this year. Some Federal Reserve officials think it could rise as high as 10.6 percent in 2010. The post-World War II high was 10.8 percent at the end of 1982, when the country suffered through a severe recession.
An elevated unemployment rate could become a political liability for President Barack Obama when congressional elections are held next year. The last time the unemployment rate topped 10 percent, the party of the president -- then Ronald Reagan's GOP -- lost 26 House seats in the midterm elections in 1982.
Obama has urged Americans to be patient and give time for his $787 billion stimulus package of tax cuts and increased government spending to take hold. Most of the money will flow in 2010.
When the economy is healthy, employers add a net total of around 125,000 jobs a month just to keep the unemployment rate stable. To get the jobless rate down to a more normal 5 percent range, it would take stronger job growth -- of at least 200,000 jobs a month. Economists say it might take until 2013 to drive down the unemployment rate to 5 percent.
"Although the economy seems to be at a turning point, we're not at a turning point for the labor market. That is some way off," said Brian Bethune, economist at IHS Global Insight.

Spoke with Simmonds, he mentioned minor adjustments took place in the deal between them & Sunbay Energy Corp (in Wireless Age's favor). As a result that deal was postponed a few days and will be announced early next week.
Asked him about the Connecticut projects, naturally, he went into great detail, mentioning something about a several billion dollar enterprise that handles incineration & would partner with them in building several gasification plants as some initiative (state-wide) would force them to search for alternatives beyond incineration.
He assured me that all of the pending events (i.e. name change) are in order following the closing to their acquisition of Sunbay Energy Corp.
My synopsis: These events will create significant value in this company.
Oil falls to near $71 as US inventories rise.
Oil falls to near $71 in European trade amid rising US inventories, signs of slower recovery
By Pablo Gorondi, Associated Press Writer
On Thursday August 6, 2009, 8:21 am EDT
Oil prices fell to near $71 a barrel Thursday as investors eyed rising U.S. crude inventories and signs of a weak economy.
By early afternoon in Europe, benchmark crude for September delivery was down 38 cents to $71.59 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. On Wednesday, the contract gained 55 cents to settle at $71.97.
Crude has traded near $71 a barrel for the last couple days after shooting up from below $62 last week as investors try to gauge whether a weak U.S. economy justifies a further rally.
The Energy Department's Energy Information Administration on Wednesday said crude inventories increased by nearly 2 million barrels last week, adding to the 5 million barrels put into storage the previous week.
The Institute for Supply Management reported that the services sector contracted more sharply than expected in July. The ISM showed that retailers, financial services, transportation and health care sectors, which account for 80 percent of U.S. economic activity, fell for a tenth straight month.
One interesting aspect in the markets at present is the $3.50 spread between the Nymex and Brent contracts. In London, Brent prices fell 20 cents to $75.31 a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange.
Olivier Jakob of Petromatrix in Switzerland noted that "technically, the oil markets are currently split in two."
While the U.S. contract and gasoline futures were struggling to break through previous highs, the Brent contract and heating oil were maintaining a "very positive advancing momentum," Jakob said.
"As long as equities continue to be supported (they are) and the Dollar Index to be pressured (it is) then we need to give more weight for the convergence to occur upwards towards Brent," Jakob concluded.
The Schork Report edited by U.S. analyst and trader Stephen Schork reiterated the lack of input market fundamentals of supply and demand are having on prices.
"Supplies of crude oil are well above seasonal norms ... yet our friends, the speculators, still like owning Nymex crude oil, a lot of Nymex crude oil," Schork said. "Therefore, once again high prices are becoming the justification for high prices."
In other Nymex trading, gasoline for August delivery fell 0.07 cent to $2.0505 a gallon and heating oil dropped 0.19 cents to $1.9550. Natural gas for August delivery rose 0.1 cent to $4.043 per 1,000 cubic feet.

Comcast's 2Q profit soars 53 pct, tops estimates.
Comcast reports 53 percent jump in 2Q profit on higher revenue, but subscriber growth slows
By Deborah Yao, AP Business Writer
On Thursday August 6, 2009, 7:22 am EDT
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Comcast Corp., the nation's biggest cable TV systems operator, posted a 53 percent increase in second-quarter profit on Thursday, helped by higher prices and increased customer spending on video and Internet services. But subscriber growth markedly slowed as the recession's grip didn't lessen.
Comcast said it hasn't yet seen signs of an economic rebound. Local advertising remains depressed.
The quarter's subscriber growth was dampened by the housing slump, jobless rate and competition, as well as a seasonal slowdown due to college students and senior citizen 'snowbirds' disconnecting for the summer.
Philadelphia-based Comcast earned $967 million, or 33 cents per share, in the quarter ended June 30, compared with $632 million, or 21 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter.
Revenue rose by 4.5 percent to $8.94 billion from $8.55 billion, helped by more customer sign-ups and higher prices.
The performance exceeded the expectations of analysts polled by Thomson Reuters, who were looking for earnings of 26 cents per share and revenue of $8.86 billion, on average.
Free cash flow edged up less than 1 percent to $1.17 billion. Local advertising revenue dropped nearly 20 percent to $325 million from $405 million.
Comcast said it added nearly 334,200 lines of service, down from last year's nearly 960,000. The company lost about 213,800 basic video customers, up sharply from the loss of 138,100 a year ago. Digital cable TV added nearly 250,000 subscribers, but that was still well below the nearly 320,000 added in the 2008 period.
High-speed Internet saw the biggest drop in new customers, with the company signing up just 65,000 new users compared with the 278,500 new subscribers recorded in the year-ago period. Digital voice added 233,350 subscribers, down 58 percent.
Customers spent more per month on average on video and Internet services, but not phone. Video revenue per customer rose 7.4 percent to $117.74, helped by higher prices and customers signing up for premium services such as HD packages as they stayed home to watch entertainment rather than going out.
The monthly revenue from Internet services was $42.06, up from $41.98 a year ago. But phone revenue per subscriber fell to $38.78 from $39.46.
The company said it began trials of its online video program in July, in which 5,000 Comcast customers nationwide could access cable TV programs over the Internet with a log-in. Partners in the venture include HBO, Starz and CBS. It expects to launch the service in the fourth quarter.
The online video program, called 'On Demand Online' by Comcast and 'TV Everywhere' by Time Warner Inc., seeks to give cable customers access to cable TV content on computers and mobile phones without jeopardizing subscription revenue.
Comcast also stepped up its ultra-high-speed Internet deployment of 50 Megabits per second or higher. It now expects to launch the service in 80 percent of its markets by year-end, up from 65 percent. Comcast, like other cable TV operators, is ramping up services as it faces competition from Verizon Communications Inc.'s fiber-optic FiOS and AT&T Inc.'s U-verse.
Comcast resumed its share buyback program in the quarter, spending $215 million to repurchase 15.5 million shares.
Gains overseas, Cisco lift US stock futures.
US stock futures up despite sluggish retail sales, boosted by gains overseas, Cisco outlook
By Sara Lepro, AP Business Writer
On Thursday August 6, 2009, 8:29 am EDT
NEW YORK (AP) -- U.S. stock futures are edging higher Thursday, supported by gains in overseas markets and an encouraging outlook from Cisco Systems Inc.
The market's gains, however, were muted by sluggish July sales reports from retailers, as worries about job losses kept consumers from spending freely. Expectations had been low though, so the dips in sales didn't come as much of a surprise to the market.
In Europe, stocks rebounded after two days of losses after European central banks left their benchmark interest rates at low levels. The Bank of England also announced plans to expand its asset purchase program.
Meanwhile, Cisco Systems offered some fairly upbeat news, despite reporting a 46 percent drop in profit in its latest quarter late Wednesday. The technology giant, which narrowly beat expectations, said the quarter may have been the bottom of the recession-related downturn, noting positive trends in orders for its products.
The Labor Department is expected to announce before the market opens that the number of newly laid-off workers seeking unemployment benefits fell slightly last week, after rising more than expected in the previous week.
In the past two days, stocks have stalled from their big surge in July as investors become more cautious ahead of the government's crucial July employment report on Friday. The market soared higher last month on signs of improvement in industries such as housing and manufacturing, but investors are worried that rising unemployment and still-sagging consumer spending could seriously dampen the economy's recovery.
At the same time, analysts say some pause in buying is warranted after such a huge advance; The Dow Jones industrial average is up 13.9 percent in just 18 days.
Ahead of the market's open, Dow Jones industrial average futures were up 43, or 0.5 percent, at 9,288. Standard & Poor's 500 index futures were up 3.70, or 0.4 percent, at 1,004.50, while Nasdaq 100 index futures were down less than a point, or 0.02 percent, at 1,614.25.
In afternoon trading, Britain's FTSE 100 was up 1.2 percent, Germany's DAX index was up 0.8 percent, and France's CAC-40 was up 1.3 percent.
Earlier Thursday, Japan's Nikkei stock average rose 1.3 percent and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index jumped 2.0 percent.
A modest decline in stocks on Wednesday followed minimal gains on Tuesday. Those moves came after a surge on Monday that hurled the S&P 500 index above the 1,000 mark for the first time since November. Improving outlooks on manufacturing and housing have stoked the market's most recent advance.
Despite the growing caution in the market, analysts have been encouraged by the orderliness of the pause, noting that stocks have shown strength in their ability to hold on to most of their gains rather than selling off sharply. Analysts also say that the market's dips often present investors who may have missed out on the rally with good buying opportunities.
Bond prices were mostly higher in early trading. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note, which moves opposite its price, fell to 3.72 percent from 3.75 percent late Wednesday.
The dollar was mixed against other major currencies, while gold prices fell.
Light, sweet crude fell 32 cents to $71.65 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Good Thursday Morning to all.

Weak economic data puts stock market rally on hold.
Wall Street rally goes on hold after report of weakening business at service companies
By Sara Lepro and Tim Paradis, AP Business Writers
On Wednesday August 5, 2009, 5:49 pm EDT
NEW YORK (AP) -- The closer investors get to the government's July employment report, the more cautious they become.
Stocks slipped Wednesday as investors shied away from big moves ahead of the government's monthly reading on job losses and the unemployment rate, which comes out before the start of trading on Friday. The pullback, which took the Dow Jones industrials down 39 points, followed a 34-point gain Tuesday that was a slowdown from the previous day's triple-digit advance.
The big concern on Wall Street is layoffs, and whether companies trying to preserve their profits during the recession are continuing to slash jobs at a furious pace. Job cuts have to slow for the economy to have a solid recovery.
The caution in Wednesday's trading followed a disappointing report on the service industry. The Institute for Supply Management said its service index, a measure of the health of retail, financial services, transportation and health care companies, fell to 46.4 in July from 47 in June. It was the 10th straight monthly slide.
Still, there are plenty of signs of strength on Wall Street, and one is the fact that Wednesday's very modest loss was the biggest point drop in the Dow since July 7. Investors have been looking for the market to pause after it started to shoot higher in mid-July. But stocks' occasional dips have been mild because some investors who missed the rally are looking to buy when prices dip.
The ISM report gave investors an excuse to cash in gains after the furious buying of the past month. The Dow is still up 13.9 percent in just 18 days.
"The market has just had a pretty good advance and is looking for a reason for a pullback," said Henry Herrmann, CEO of investment management firm Waddell & Reed.
The Dow fell 39.22, or 0.4 percent, to 9,280.97. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 2.93, or 0.3 percent, to 1,002.72, while the Nasdaq composite index fell 18.26, or 0.9 percent, to 1,993.05.
Treasury prices fell after the government said it would auction $75 billion in notes next week. Some investors are worried that the government will have to entice buyers by offering greater returns. That would drive up interest rates and could make it harder for the economy to recover.
The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note, which moves opposite its price, rose to 3.75 percent from 3.69 percent late Tuesday.
Analysts said the drop in stocks was welcome because building on gains in a step-like fashion is more sustainable than a surge without breaks.
"It would only be natural to hesitate here as it tries to make up its mind as to what the next move will be," said Michael Sheldon, chief market strategist at RDM Financial.
The jobs report could reshape ideas about when the economy might recover. Economists expect it will show the jobless rate rose to 9.6 percent as employers cut 320,000 jobs last month, better than the 467,000 lost in June.
A private-sector report on unemployment offered little encouragement. The ADP National Employment Report, a closely watched precursor to the Labor Department's report, said employment fell by 371,000 in July -- slightly more than anticipated -- following a revised loss of 463,000 jobs in June.
In better economic news, the Commerce Department said factory orders rose in June for the fourth time in five months. The 0.4 percent rise came after a 1.1 percent increase in May. Economists had been expecting a drop of 1 percent.
In other trading, the dollar was mixed against other major currencies and gold fell.
Light, sweet crude rose 55 cents to settle at $71.97 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
The Russell 2000 index of smaller companies fell 4.75, or 0.8 percent, to 565.99.
Falling stocks outnumbered those that rose 8-to-7 on the New York Mercantile Exchange, where consolidated volume came to 7.7 billion shares, compared with 5.8 billion Tuesday.
Overseas markets slid. Britain's FTSE 100 fell 0.5 percent, Germany's DAX index lost 1.2 percent, and France's CAC-40 shed 0.5 percent. Japan's Nikkei stock average ended down 1.2 percent.
About half of U.S. mortgages seen underwater by 2011.
By Al Yoon
NEW YORK (Reuters) – The percentage of U.S. homeowners who owe more than their house is worth will nearly double to 48 percent in 2011 from 26 percent at the end of March, portending another blow to the housing market, Deutsche Bank said on Wednesday.
Home price declines will have their biggest impact on prime "conforming" loans that meet underwriting and size guidelines of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the bank said in a report. Prime conforming loans make up two-thirds of mortgages, and are typically less risky because of stringent requirements.
"We project the next phase of the housing decline will have a far greater impact on prime borrowers," Deutsche analysts Karen Weaver and Ying Shen said in the report.
Of prime conforming loans, 41 percent will be "underwater" by the first quarter of 2011, up from 16 percent at the end of the first quarter 2009, it said. Forty-six percent of prime jumbo loans will be larger than their properties' value, up from 29 percent, it said.
"The impact of this is significant given that these markets have the largest share of the total mortgage market outstanding," the analysts said. Prime jumbo loans make up 13 percent of the total market.
Deutsche's dire assessment comes amid a bolt of evidence in recent months that point to stabilization in the U.S. housing market after three years of price drops. This week, the National Association of Realtors said pending home sales rose for a fifth straight month in June. A widely watched index released in July showed home prices in May rose for the first time since 2006.
Covering 100 U.S. metropolitan areas, Deutsche Bank in June forecast home prices would fall 14 percent through the first quarter of 2011, for a total drop of 41.7 percent.
The drop in home prices is fueling a vicious cycle of foreclosures as it eliminates homeowner equity and gives borrowers an incentive to walk away from their mortgages. The more severe the negative equity, the more likely are defaults, since many borrowers believe prices will not recover enough.
Homeowners with the riskiest mortgages taken out during the housing boom have seen the greatest erosion in equity, in part because they were "affordability products" originated at the housing peak, Deutsche said. They include subprime loans, of which 69 percent will be underwater in 2011, up from 50 percent in March, Deutsche said,
Of option adjustable-rate mortgages -- which cut payments by allowing principal balances to rise -- 89 percent will be underwater in 2011, up from 77 percent, the report said.
Regions suffering the worst negative equity are areas in California, Florida, Arizona, Nevada, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Massachusetts and West Virginia. Las Vegas and parts of Florida and California will see 90 percent or more of their loans underwater by 2011, it added.
"For many, the home has morphed from piggy bank to albatross," the analysts said.

Cisco earnings fall 46 pct but beat expectations.
Cisco earnings fall 46 percent in latest quarter, sees signs recession's grip loosening
By Peter Svensson, AP Technology Writer
On Wednesday August 5, 2009, 6:48 pm EDT
NEW YORK (AP) -- Cisco Systems Inc. said earnings fell 46 percent in its latest quarter, but the profit beat Wall Street expectations and the company said the quarter may have been the bottom of the recession-related downturn.
"We saw a number of positive signs this quarter in the economy and in our business," CEO John Chambers said in a statement. He added that if order trends keep improving, there's a good chance the latest quarter was a "tipping point."
He said he expects a slight increase in revenue in the current quarter compared with the just-ended one.
As the world's largest maker of computer networking gear, Cisco has seen sales hit hard as clients delayed investments and capital improvements. However, good profit margins and a large pile of cash have helped the company ride out the downturn.
The San Jose, Calif.-based company posted a profit of $1.1 billion, or 19 cents per share, for the fiscal fourth quarter, which ended July 25. That was down from $2 billion, or 33 cents per share, in the same quarter last year.
Sales fell 18 percent to $8.5 billion, but rose 4.6 percent from the previous quarter. Chambers said month-to-month sales changes were starting to return to normal seasonal patterns, leaving behind the precipitous slide that started in October.
Excluding the cost of stock-based compensation and other items, Cisco's earnings were 31 cents per share. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters were expecting earnings of 29 cents per share on $8.5 billion in revenue.
For the current quarter, Chambers said he expects a revenue drop of 15 percent to 17 percent from a year ago, or an increase of 1 percent to 3 percent from the last quarter. That implies revenue of $8.55 billion to $8.76 billion. Analysts had been forecasting $8.59 billion in revenue.
Chambers didn't give an earnings forecast, but said he expects the company's gross margin to fall to 64 percent in the current quarter from 65.3 percent for the last quarter, as the company moves into more new markets with lower margins. Cisco is pushing into selling servers for data centers, and has just bought Pure Digital, maker of the popular Flip Video camera.
Cisco shares fell 70 cents, or 3.2 percent, to $21.47 after Chambers announced his forecast, after initially rising on the results. In regular trading before the results were announced, shares closed down 29 cents, or 1.3 percent, at $22.15. Cisco's stock became part of the Dow Jones Industrial Average during the past quarter, replacing General Motors Corp.
Erik Suppiger, an analyst at Signal Hill Capital Group, said investors were probably looking for slightly better revenue from Cisco for the latest quarter, but said the results were generally good. He noted that Cisco warned of a decline in margins one quarter ago, and it didn't happen, despite some discounting.
Chambers said the company is finished with a belt-tightening program that has led to layoffs of just above 2,000 employees in the last two quarters, slightly more than the company had advertised. It ended the quarter with 65,545 workers. The company is now fully focused on growth, the CEO said.
For the full fiscal year, Cisco earned $6.1 billion on $36.1 billion in sales, compared to $8.1 billion on sales of $39.5 billion in the previous fiscal year.

An update to the last video chart crafted a few trading sessions back: as the market corrected itself, it held above several key supporting levels, $0.03, $0.02, respectfully. Longer term investors will continue to see strength in the trend as long as the price holds critical support and continues to tackle resistance on above average volume.
